It still amazes me that when office-bound news reporters can happily sit at a computerised desk and gather tons of information from CNN, TASS, Reuters and a myriad of other agencies, that we are meant to be impressed that the BBC have plonked a frozen cold reporter outside of a hospital, or number 10, or some tape blocking them from a crime scene that is a good mile away.

These reporters are NEVER able to tell us anythng we didn't already know and normally are filmed against a back drop of street cleaners and bored policemen who don't know anything either.

Why do they think that some woman stood outside St Swithens with a microphone will suddenly encounter a top consultant who will tell her the latest state of some celebrity's well being when it ain't been properly announced yet?

As the previous poster alluded to, a waste of taxi fare.

Always makes me laugh too, Kin. Also, that same reporter, and everyone on the darned news, insisting on telling you their name all the time. They used to do it in the States years ago when I lived there and it really annoyed me. Now it is everywhere here too. I don't care WHO YOU ARE. Only your mother cares WHO YOU ARE. Just tell me the blooming news.

Yes, in the days when Angela Rippon, Trevor McDoughnut and co became famous, they were always quick to shun such fame and insist that they must not become the news.

Alas such self-effacement seems to have been forgotten, and the modern journo wants to be known as much for his/her camera image as the stuff they are reporting.

I would exclude the BBC1 breakfast bunch who seem to concentrate on the matters in hand despite the fact that the likes of Susanna Reid have far more natural beauty than their fake-tanned ITV counterparts.

I love the comment "Only their mother wants to know their name." Spot on.
They work for the BBC. Their name is irrelevant.

I just wish the news, the travel and the weather reporters would use English grammar as a default policy! We all slip up on occasions but I tend to try and get it right most of the time, whereas they appear to be unworried about if they are talking sense or not.

Most presenters on most channels have fallen into the trap of saying things like "he did that really quick" rather than "quickly" which is the adverb.

And despite being frequently ridiculed, more and more seem to talk about a lady called "Laura Norder" rather than "Law and order".

Kirsty Wark is the shining beacon of light for grammar and pronuciation, but alas has few peers except for Paxman.

B*gger! I think I was distracted by the thought of her on Masterchef. Everytime she wiped flower off her face I wanted to swoon.

I found it interesting that Vickery goes as purple in the face when cooking as he used to do when playing rugby.

Did he ask for a replacement after about 65% of the programme had passed? And did he demand uncontested soufflés?

I bet his cooking wasn't very Scrum-ptious

Sorry :smt010
