How About The Newly refurbished Robert Peel oooooo! I hear you all cry but wait a minuite - The new Landlords Have had several years at the Star and Garter in Wigston and are Known for keeping good beer.
I understand that they will have six or seven hand pulled ales and prices will be very good so give it a go.
It is on Jarrom street ( stand outside the Swan and Rushes and walk down Jarrom street and it is on the left)
Probably the best kept Tiger ale you will find anywhere.

Just wanted to mention that for those who enjoy a nice pint at a good price before the match - give the Robert Peel pub a go.(Jarrom street)
The pub has just been re furbished with a hint of a Tigers feel and the landlords used to be in the Star & Garter in Wigston and are well known for keeping good beer and real ales.
Well Worth a try.

I know what you mean TigerCam oooo those eggs - but did you know that Our very own Geordan Murphy has put his name to a special beer brewed for the Robert Peel pub and the great man is going to the pub over the Worcester weekend to launch it and "mingle" with the customers. It will be put on the website.
Scotch eggs then a "Murphy's Peel"
Sounds good to me.

We always use 'The Pub', but very happy to visit a new pub, provided the beer's good, so will probably give it a try (especially as it's on our walk into town pre-match).

I do wonder if "Theproudtiger" is, in fact, the landlord?

Valhalla I am coming!

When coming into Leicester on the train we tend to head for the Barley Mow (recently refurbished) and then head down to the Bricklayers or Swan and Rushes.
Often go to The Pub afterwards and agree about the scotch eggs!
I will give the Peel a try this season though...

The same thought has crossed my mind.

Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.

Just stopped laughing so thanks Fleabane and BJ for the landlord bit - but I could not run to a bus stop let alone run a pub!
My only connection is that I Have enjoyed many pints in the Star & Garter and the beer is superbly kept and the landlords have now taken over the Robert Peel and Mrs TPT and I went in last week and it is " a real " pub well worth a visit.
It is now going to be our meeting pub before all home games so hope to see you in the new season.

On the advice of this thread I decided to try the Robert Peel and am very pleased I did. Definitely the best pub nearest to our ground I was surprised at the amount of real ales and recognised quite a few faces that I had seen previously in The Pub and the Swan & Rushes. For me its a no brainer, the Robert Peel has the best beer and atmosphere before the game. Good prices too!!

I am going to add this thread into the Recommended Pubs etc topic so all such recommendations are kept together.

Further recommendation, if it were needed, for The Sir Robert Peel in Jarrom Street which has just been selected as Pub of the Month by the Leicester branch of CAMRA:
' Licensees Julian & Karen Watson have worked
in the pub trade for over 20 years and moved
into Sir Robert Peel in June last year, since when
they have stocked over 200 beers. Keith Williams,
Leicester CAMRA Branch Chairman praised them
both, saying: “We chose Sir Robert Peel because
since Julian and Karen have taken over, it has
become one of the better pubs in Leicester to drink
in and, for the work they have put in, they should
be recognised. Everards invested heavily in [its
refurbishment] …as it was really run down before
and we realised this pub has had a new lease of life
with Julian and Karen who were the right licensees
to make it happen. We show our appreciation by
giving this award to pubs that stand out above the
rest, and this one does!” '

Yes The Pub is no longer open but the gaffers have got hold of The Charlotte and hope to be open for first league game. Will be selling the same array of ales but from different premises. Good luck to them I hope the move is a success.
