Christmas Moaning
Can we start to moan about christmas yet and all things christmassy?
I do like this thread once it gets started, normally lasts till about easter.
I know the shops started with christmas before halloween but i didn't want to depress anyone to early on the forum.
We can delay if need be!

Does this include the awful Christmas adverts? I must say the Iceland one takes the trophy for that this year. It contravenes just about every rule in the advertising, music, lyrics & taste book, including Jason Donovan.
Being slightly positive, I like the new Grouse Dark ad. and the Sainsbury's one is OK (apart from Jamie Oliver).

Who is daring to advertise Christmas? This is an effrontery to those of our secular society who choose not to celebrate the birth of Christ.
Such adverts shoud be banned!

Re: Christmas Moaning
Personally I like 1st December because I light an Advent candle each evening, and use the time when it burns to think of people dear to me, far and near, and those no longer here.
Pagans, of course, celebrate Yule which is December 21st - holly, evergreen branches, mistletoe and candles, and lots of cakes and ale (or equivalent). I haven't got an open fire so I sometimes burn some wood in a fire pit in the garden (depending on weather).
All of the above doesn't prevent me moaning about the heat in the shops, the overpriced tat that masquerades as "traditional festive decorations" and the ridiculous overload of grocery buying that the shops think we all perform.
All Christmas rants and moans welcome here. Ho Ho Ho and

Xmas Goose might be followed by a seasonal punch.

Re: Christmas Moaning
I absolutely love Christmas Day and the days either side. But the hype starting in August is awful.
For me (purely personal view), Christmas is a fantastic period of families, smiling kids, being generous, playing games after having a tipple and making your surroundings look garish and tastelessly colourful for just a couple of weeks.
But the TV programmers and advertisers tend to drain the magic out of Christmas rather like Doctor Phibes drained the blood from one of his victims.

Actually in some demented way, the snow is sort of making me feel a bit festive. I might even get round to writing some cards this evening.
