The large established Grimsby Fisheries, Welford Road cook the best chips and surprisingly this recommendation has nothing to do with being only 15/20 minute walk from the stadium!

Ruby's in Thringstone, near Coalville are without doubt the best. Whenever i go back home from Hull myself & the family always want to go to Ruby's.

Times we sit at home and say "i could just eat a Ruby's now".

The chips etc are good but its the size of the portions that blows your mind. Anyone in the area call in around 10.45pm and you get extras because they don't want to through it away.

Now i'm :censored: starving!

As WiggoTiger says, Frenchies at Wells Next The Sea is good. But the best fish and chips has got to be in Whitby, sheltering from the rain under the band stand, lovely.

However, does anyone else think that any fish and chips taste better at the sea side rather than inland?

Chips certainly taste better when eaten outside....the very best I've ever had were from a small travelling chip van which used to visit a different village in the Hope Valley each week night. (this is long before Castleton got it's own chip shop!).
Sitting in the bus shelter in the cold and damp with a steaming hot bag of chips in your hands was bliss.

Then the chip van caught fire one night. Almost as exciting as getting the chips.

It is also a well known fact that fish and chips taste better out of greaseproof paper partly dissoved in vinegar and wrapped in newspaper.

I have to agree the grimsby is totally unbeatable,
everything down to the salt and vinegar was amazing
As a younger lad i used to go there at every home game and there are no words that can describe the feeling walking to a game with the warm sensation of Grimsby fish and chips in your belly!!!!
Just thinking about it makes me hungry as well as making me smile!

Skin_and_Muscle wrote:I agree with surfing tigress. Rick Stein has a great takeaway chippy in Padstow (along with many other fish based outlets in the town) and I had the most incredible monkfish in beer batter!

I live in Kent, and the Kent coast has some pretty decent fish. Broadstairs is my tip.
I love Rick Stein's chippy. Plus being by the seaside does always make it better!! Just don't got to Skegness its not what it used to be!

In the Midlands, the chippy in Cottesmore, or the Crown and Anchor in Welby, near Grantham.

The best there is: Pierowall Inn, Westray, Orkney. Unbelievable. :smt023

Kent's "tuck-inn" fried chicken ( yes you read that correctly, yes they do get sued regularly by the humourless KFC org!) in Lower Gornal, Dudley, west mids. Amazing tender cod, beer batter and awesome chips.

Blue Submarine - Russell's Hall, dudley. Best haddock I've had.
