Most definitely did the right thing.
Ian Huntley's wife stood by and said nothing whilst he worked with school kids. She almost certainly knew he shouldn't have been working there, but her silence cost two girls their lives.
Similarly the Yorkshire Ripper's wife must have known his behaviour was odd, but her refusal to notify the police meant many women had to die before the police caught him.
These lads have blinded a man in one eye. If their mother hadn't turned them in, what would they have done next?

Kicks and scrums and ruck and roll.....Is all my brain and body need!
I listened to a debate on radio 5 about this.
One clown rang up and argued how it was wrong to 'grass' on a family member.
To me, blood ties mean nothing. I was born to a 'loose woman' who had me fostered by a wonderful woman who I call the only person worthy of the name 'mum'.
A point that no-one mentioned is that everybody is someones son or daughter....Hitler, Bin Laden, Shipman etc. etc.
Wrong is wrong no matter who you are related to.
Bless this lady.. The swill in her family will make her suffer.

I haven't followed this closely, just the headlines, but I'm sure she tried very hard to sort her children out herself and within the family and this was her last resort. I have much sympathy and admiration for her.

Welcome from me too. h's dad.
My son got fired from work the other week for being late. I was really proud of him (not for being late obviously!) but because while all his friends were saying "appeal, you only were late the once", "that's not fair", he said fair enough, I was late, my fault. He now has a new job and (hopefully) has learnt his lesson. I hope these lads will learn theirs. I always think it's how you act when you've screwed up that really shows what you are made of.

Thanks for the welcome.
It does seem a bit severe for a first offence CT. He sounds well out of it with another job. Punctuality is not one of my strongpoints. They even fine me at Sunday training although I do try to pass some of the blame onto H.
Sorry if I'm straying off the subject.
