US Elections

Post by westy154 »

I love a good Presidential election me and this years primaries have so far been a doozy.

Anyone else taking an interest?

I have no idea who will be the democratic nomination, but McCain seems to be the favourite for the Republican vote. Not a bad thing either, I quite like him.

I've been taking a keen intrest as a politics student.

Neither race is clear cut, McCain has spant a lot of money and, although hes got the mo, is running out while Rommey has enough money to spend yhundreds of millions more. The Republican race isn't over yet by any means. I hope McCain wins becuase a) hes the easyist republican for a Dem. to beat as he willl alientate his base and b) hes actually a good, Liberal leaning guy.

The Dem race is too close to call-Nationally Hillarys leading but the gap is rapidly closing as Obama gains funs (Hillarys still $20m ahead though). Obama should have the mo but Clinton has strrong leads in the big states. I hope Obama wins but Clinton holds most of the cards.

finding it all very interesting but the total accent on how much money you can raise and spend sits uneasily with me, personally.

McCain has it sewn up, it seems, but the Democrat nomination is too close to call.

we're in for a good year - all this politics and some great sport as well.

I rather like Senator McCain actually, I heard him talk on The Daily Show and he's a really pleasant affable chap. I don't have much love for the Republicans as a rule, but I wouldn't oppose him. He also has the all important South Carolina vote, and Republicans hold that record in very high esteem. Romney might be able to keep on throwing money at the cause, but I think (and hope) the McCain holds out.

The Rudy Guliani thing made me laugh. His 'shrewd' move of ignoring all the early primaries to focus on Florida backfired quite hilariously.

Obama versus Clinton, I reiterate that I have no idea. I don't even know which one I would prefer. It's a shame that one isn't a Republican, I would have loved an election where redneck Middle America had to choose between a woman and a black man.

:smt003 :smt003 Nice one Kin!!

I don't know enough about John McCain to comment on his personality. Personally, I would rather have someone younger as President of the U.S. That said, anything would be an improvement on George W Bush!!

I am not a Republican fan. I prefer the Democrats and would rather have a Democrat President. Hillary or Barack Obama? Not sure really but I think there is plenty of time to go before that nomination is decided. I would be happy with either.

McCain may be old, and he may be a Republican but he is also very democrat-ish in a lot of what he says. His biggest problem could actually be alienating the hard core factions of his party rather than not appealing to the common ground.

He may be old, but he seems to still have all his marbles.

I am lucky enough to be in Annapolis, Maryland on business at the moment...watched the Superbowl in a downtown bar and am getting bombarded with Super Tuesday here on every channel !! Only in America, the gap between Clinton and Obama is apparently closing, and the Americans that I was talking to yesterday hate Clinton with a passion.

Deviating from the subject a little, Westwinds, how good was the Superbowl? an absolute cracker of a game, even if I was gutted that the Pats lost.

What was the opinion like over there?

How's this for dragging up and re-using an old thread!

Nothing since February, but it is about time to make further mention of this subject.

Been a good and really interesting election so far. I think we are in for a long night though, I don't think it will be as clear cut as lots of people think it will. I'm not even convinced that Senator Obama will win. I just have a sneaking suspicion that McCain (who has run a dreadful campaign) might just push the result all the way to the wire.

Never mind a long night, we're probably in for a long month or so while they haggle over whether the holes punched in the voting cards have been done so correctly! (Have they scrapped that system yet?)

I do believe that Florida got itself a new system, yes.

And joking aside, I honestly think that it could end up as close as that one was.
