Hate hate hate. As a teacher there is nothing more annoying than people returning work littered with irritating text speak. Plus it is easier to text writing properly with predictive text anyway. Absolutely no need or point in text speak. Ever.

I don't like it but people only do it because they can get more words in one message texting that way, rather than proper spelling therefore it is cheaper texting for them

Well yes you can get more words in one message. But how many do you need in a message exactly? The vast majority of my texts contain proper spelling and consist of one page. Plus I have seen texts where "the" has been spelt "da" and "my" has been spelt "ma". "Cool" has been spelt "kewl". Do please tell me how this helps??

Text speak...liberating? The only thing it liberates people from is the ability to communicate in a non-moronic fashion. Words liberate, agreed, but without the correct spelling their meaning is lost. How can something liberate if it is meaningless?

Text speak makes people stupid - simple as. If people use predictive text it can really improve spelling.

I'm all for a liberal way of life, but everyone uses words to communicate and without structure that ability to communicate in a manner that can be understood is lost.

I know we're an introverted bunch of freaks on this island, but lets not make things any worse.

i can understand it if you have written a long text and if you include text speak then you can fit it all into one text message, then it is understandable, but in general in normal practice i think it is silly and is damaging childrens grammar and spelling.

I use predictive text, is much easier than trying to think of ways to shorten words!

I got a text recently from my sister-in-law that included

ROTFLMAO

Needless to say I didn't have a clue what she was trying to say ... I know she's younger than me but she is 42 and should know better.

I'll tell you all soon if no-one comes up with the right answer.
