Eruption - Van Halen, off their classic first album. :P

Absolutely astonishing, should have won the recent 'best guitar solo' poll (came third, I think).

Was it van Halen who did the solo in "Beat It"? Best thing Michael Jackson never did, whoever was responsible for it.

Yep, that was Eddie Van Halen. He was a superb guitarist, although something of a recluse nowadays.

Yes Fade to Black by Metallica is up there.
My favourite is Mustaine's on My Last Words by Megadeth.

Agreed - especially played live. At my first show during their tour this summer the first chords of Dry County echoed out - all the hard core fans looked at each other going "OMG Dry County!" and the newbie fans just looked confused. By the time they finished the song, everyone was going nuts.

Mind you, The solo in Next 100 Years is pretty awesome live too.

(being a Sambora die-hard, I could pick many of his solos)

Also love Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits and Thin Lizzy's Dancing in thw Moonlight or Jailbreak
Don't waste your time away thinking about yesterday's blues
Demelza - another Mother

As I started this thread I will trow 2 others into the pot:

Child in Time - Deep Purple
Sweet Child of Mine - Guns & Roses

Just been listening to them while coming back from a short break in Devon. Got back in time to watch the game at WR.

My favourite Pearl Jam solo is Evenflow, though I have to admit I love the bass line so all through I just mumble dooh do do do do dooh do dooh, uh. It's so subtle.
