Why did it have to go

Post by Sim »

I KNOW THIS WILL BE LOCKED PROBABLY BUT.....

really what were the real problems with The Never Ending Word Thread. It was a light hearted thread and a good little game i can't see any reason for deleting this. WRCC is a non rugby forum and it fitted right in. People who didn't want to post on it didn't have to and those who wanted to could. It never affected those who didn't want to post on it but now those who did want to post on it have suffered and are affected. Its wrong, stupid, pointless, unjustified and annoying.
great service....great idea (cheers Mr Branson)

1. People were using it to bump up their word count

2. It made the chit chat forum cliquey

3. It was a pain to moderate

4. I put it to the vote, it was voted to scrap it.

This thread can stay unlocked if you like, but the never ending word thread is NOT coming back.

How about we try talking to each other instead??

well you can't really say that considering you've posted 10 times before, and it was whatever swear wod you put in it was a bit of a game if you didn't feel the need to go on it you didn't have to, it didn't affect you if it was up there it was just another thread.

Why does it matter if people used it to bump up there word or post count, yes its a bit immature to but i never used it to bump up my count i simply added things on when i wanted to. I don't see how it made it cliquey everyone was welcome to post on it, the people who voted againt it were probably the ones who didn't like it, so fine they didn't like it but as i said they didn't HAVE to post. There are many posts i don't post on or don't until they're pages and pages long but it doesn't mean they should be deleted. I see your point about it being a pain to moderate but there were rarely any rudewords or phrases put on there. It just seems a bit unfair to those who wanted it.

I'm sure you'll get over it.

You realise the forum actually doesn't have unlimited memory? The fewer threads like that, the fewer posts can be saved on the forum. From the moderating point of view I have to read each post on this forum to censor or whatever. Given that a lot of computer generated spam has landed here lately it was quite feasible that spam posts could get attached to that thread and stay there.

For a plethora of reasons I found it an irritating burden. However, I put it to a vote to make sure it was agreed on that it be deleted. I can't do fairer than that now can I??

The thread was actually deleted this afternoon and nobody else batted an eyelid! Does it really bother you that much?

Yes it does. Someone once mentioned the meory that the Never Ending Wird Thread took up and tjs quite clearly stated it took up hardly any at all. And putting it to a vote it may be a air way to decide but why did a decision have to be made, you have said on one forum that this is a light hearted place to get away from the rugby chat and probably the most light hearted thread has gone, you've contridicted yourself. The thread started up before you were a moderator and so you knew that it would be one of your taks to moderate it, if you didn't want to then why did you take the job.

Since then there have been memory issues with the forum.
I have outlined the reasons why it has gone, and it has now gone. You've still got your pretend airline.... is that not enough??

If you've got big issues with this you know where my PM icon is if you want to send me one.

I ahve to admit Iw as actually [rather sadly] interested in the fate of the thread in question.

If i remember correctly the results were something along the lines of:
go 46%
stay 42%
lock 12%

before the decision was amde i was going to write a little bit about the system that was chosen. it was a very slim majority that wanted the newt to go. i wondered if we were going to have to have a super-majority seeing that it was something that already exsisted. i also thought that we may have gone for middleground - the lockout to apease both sides. however a decisionw as made to go for the majoritarian ideal - and fair play - this is the type of society we live in - labour have far less than 51% of the vote. what we see here is the repurcussions of a small majority imposing its decision on a large minority. ahh, politics on a micro scale. beautiful. i'm going to sod off and stop talking rubbish now!

My pretend airline, was that meant to be a sarcastic comment, and yes its just fine thank you. And yes i don know where your PM icon is and i'll use it if i want. I can't see a problem with using this post though, unless you don't like people defying your greatness in public?

Sim, don't worry about the NEWT, its one of those things. I mean I was one of those who favoured but I can see it had to go sometime as it would have just gone on forever otherwise. Many enjoyed it while it lasted but its gone now. That's it. Not meaning to be patronising here at all. Sorry if it seems that way.

Iain has a point about the thread being difficult to moderate and I can see the memory issues. He has been fair in having a poll and allowing an open verdict. Otherwise there may have been others that complained about the thread.

Don't get yourself flustered about it old chap  There's plenty more to worry about like the World Cup and whether England can win another cricket match!! Plenty of other things to get your teeth into on this forum.

Iain's doing great as a moderator also.
