On the forum Index the following or something like it is written

In total there are 26 users online :: 5 Registered, 2 Hidden and 19 Guests

what is the difference between a Registered user, hidden user and a guest, and how to you switch between the 3

Registered user - As it says(!)

Hidden User - A registered User who has selected the option to hide their online status. You can do this in your Profile. 2nd option under the heading Preferences.

Guest. Any user who isn't registered or who is not signed in .

Therfore , yes, you could switch between the 3 - if you have a desire to( :?: )

Registered is say like you or me, we have a username and people can see when we are on line. Guests are people just browsing who are not members, and Hidden are people who have selected to not be seen as online but are around. i believe you can select to be hidden on your profile i think.

For the sake of completeness a registered user would also show as a guest if they have not logged in (either automatically or manually).
