Not wanting to spoil the fun, but why can't you organise a sticky poll on something that actually matters?

Because I was asked by swadtiger to do one on this topic basically!

What would you suggest as "something that actually matters"?

(Remembering of course that no-one really uses these polls as a guide to the opinion of fans as a whole and they are purely meant as a bit of fun).

There are lots of things that matter to Tigers fans, and as Moderator, you know this already.

You can test the opinions of fans on a range of issues. It seems pointless suggesting any, as you seem to think its a waste of time, but for starters:

Home Games that have to be moved from Saturday at 3pm should be moved to:

Friday 7.30
Saturday 7.30 (Why do the police want a 24 hour delay anyway?)
Sunday 3pm
Sunday 7.30

Of course the vote can be rigged, and so the result can't be trusted by anybody, (so its no good putting it up) which brings us back to having polls about pointless issues I suppose.

Pity we can't organise the thing so votes cannot be recorded more than once, and we use this forum usefully.

I am keen to see fans' opinions, often very well stated on this forum, taken seriously

Thats just it Phil, any poll on the internet can be rigged as you could either register multiple times or just delete cookies. Therefore any "result" from an internet poll has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

The canvassing of opinions on the issues you want to discuss should be done by the club through another means & not via a forum like this.

Even then, who do you canvass?

ST holders only?
ST holders & members?
Everyone on the club's mailing list?
Everyone in Leicester/shire?
Readers of the Mercury?
Shareholders? (And then, one vote per share or one vote per shareholder?)
Anyone who writes in unsolicited? (Likely only to be a vocal minority who can be bothered, and not the apathetic majority).

THAT'S why these polls aren't really for topics "that matter". Even if the topic "mattered", the result wouldn't be in any way useable or accurate!

Where there's a will, there's a way. If the Club wants to show it cares about what the fans think then it can find a way. Interesting that the club is polling this site on how big the stadium development should be. How would you describe such an exercise? Useful? Waste of time? Exercise in futility? Good fun?

I'd say it was something to fill a space on the homepage and little more.

It's been there for ages I think & wouldn't affect the development of the stadium, no matter how the results came out!

I've gone for three. I agree with the comment about Newcastle, but reckon tigers will prevail, Bath however I reckon will beat us.

I don't see anything wrong with a poll such as this even if some people like myself are more negative than others!

It gives fans something to vote on, is a indicator of some people's opinion on the forum, and it would be very good to have a different one every week. I don't think as TJS says that its meant to be anything more than a bit of fun.

Regarding the club canvassing opinion on such issues as Friday night fixtures, that may be better done through a postal ballot.

Answer:

Always at work, as I work from home, and have the luxury of logging on when I feel like it. Kinda gives me the break I need from the heavy stuff every now and again.
I really do get frustrated at the lack of will in trying to improve things for the fans. Ah well, back to work!!

Just out of interest, why the negativity? Do the remaining away fixtures fall on international weekends or something? Never known the Tigers fans so despondant, it's meant to be we Saints who can't see where our next win is coming from!
I want to be in that number, oh when the Saints go marching in.
