But next season I could see Burns covering 15 and Gopperth 10.
Kini can play 11,13,14,15 though and can add those game changing moments.

And 7! He's appeared as a back row replacement this season. :smt001

prefer Kini every time. Yes his kicking game not great but ball in hand is a beast

Simmons returning too adds depth there

So we signed Hegarty to cover 10 & 15

10:
We have lost Ford & Lancaster, but gained Pollard, Gopperth, Walsh & Meredith.

15:
Lost nobody, gained Watson & Simmons, plus kept Murimurivalu who was rumoured may be let go.

Was our 3rd choice 10 & 15 last year, possibly anticipated challenging Burns for 2nd choice in both areas, certainly 15. Doubt he was super cheap either.

Now he's probably 4th choice at best in each position.
10 you'd say Pollard, Burns and Gopperth all comfortably ahead now.
15 you'd say Steward, Watson, Burns and Murimurivalu are likely to be ahead (though it maybe SB sees Kini as a winger more)
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

I believe when we signed Hegarty he was playing mainly 10 for Queensland. I’m wondering if there was a certain amount of back up for Burns in the signing. Freddie had been playing 2nd division Japanese rugby and there really was no way of knowing how quickly he would get back up to speed with premiership rugby or even if he would.

I wonder if this has been on the cards or a while or whether this has come about relatively recently and has freed up some more room in the cap

Actually, he'd only started one game at 10 for the Red since 2019. All his starts between May 2019 and June 2021 were at 14 or 15. The 18/19 season was the only time he regularly started at 10.

Van Staden leaving early for health and rehab reasons. A real shame. Wish him well

Am seriously gutted about Van Staden.

Moroni not even getting an offer may make more sense if the overseas spot may be having to be used elsewhere, eg. Matera

Gutted to see him go! I was really looking forward to seeing him make a return with a full pre-season. Just shows how serious the concussion was and wish him all the best - cracking player.
I wonder how much cap space that would free up and where we would spend it.
