But where will he get the game time?

I could see him being Reffell's replacement should he have to move to Wales.
Did someone say that he could even move away from the game into a profession?
No, he's studying medicine but he's very much focused on rugby.

Not a vintage crop, this U20s, I don't think. Illione is a standout. Chessum shows promise like his brother, but feels like he still needs to fill out, which won't be easy with his height. Jed Walsh had a nice cameo, coming on to set up a try with a dummy and give. Showed more in attack there than Lancaster did in his time with us.

Ilione was comfortably England's best player. I think they'd be better off moving him back to 8 to get more carries out of him and bringing in another openside to share the load. English defence far to reliant on Ilione making turnovers, he made a few to be fair.

Edwards must be injured because there's no way the starting under 20s scrum half would have been picked above him any other way.

Chessum Jnr looked decent. He's filling out and looking more physical than he did in the J6N. Formed a handy looking second row pairing with Richards of Bath. Shame the front row looked out their depth.

Hendy was the other standout, he looked dangerous attacking from fullback. He went off for a HIA which might give Walsh an opening in the next game. Fin Smith looked classy at 10 but the team around seemed to have issues not dropping the ball or not ruining try scoring breaks with forward passes.

Brief highlights on YouTube. England got done down the flanks 4 times possibly although one was an unlucky bounce.
Re Ilione he is a beast even compared to some of the Boks lads, and has the talent. Surely this coming season has to be his breakthrough n

French backs especially their centres looked very good against the Irish. Ireland pack kept the scoreboard respectable

The big thing with Ilione is that he's all action, his biggest positive and so far his biggest weakness. The guy does everything and does it well, an absolute beast. Problem is that type of play puts you in the firing line, a lot. If Ilione can stay fit it's probably only a matter of time before he breaks into the first team here. He looks exactly the type of player Borthwick would like. Being able to play 7 and 8 is handy versatility as well.

I can see him ending up at 6 in the Tom Croft type way. Can only strengthen things moving forward.
The Young forward strength coming through Tigers is scary when you consider we could put out an u25 pack of
Whitcombe Dolly Heyes Chessum Henderson Ilione Reffell Jansen. With the likes of Vanes Hurd Martin Chessum jnr Agbongbon and the new Italian 7 in the mix too

He has jumped at the lineout previously but think that might become less of a thing as he isn't second row tall like Crofty was or Liebenburg and Martin are. The under 20s didn't use him as a jumper on Friday with the 4, 5 and 6 all noticeably taller. Could still be a handy jumper on the opposition ball as he's explosive so gets up quick for the jump. I think he'll be more of an MVS/Temana Harrison style 7/8.

Explosive is a great word Sam. I could see him at 2 getting a one man lift which would still leave enough for 2 defensive pods

That would be a great option against teams with a strong maul game. You can't throw to the front, we'll make the throw tricky and then still be able to hit hard when you bring your jumper down. Don't even need to catch the throw just spoil and make a nuisance.

Our same three - Ilione, Chessum and Walsh on the bench - are out against France tonight. On YouTube. I hope we are including Ilione in our senior team plans...
