Time to Sing

Post by TigerFeetSteve »

Putting this on a seperate thread so it doesn't get lost on other thread posts.

So what time are we planning on breaking out into song.

Opening number to be "Welford Road" to the tune of "Country Roads"
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

First kick off after Tigers' first score?
No, not that one!

Remember, whatever you do to the smallest of the backs you do to his prop, and you can't avoid the rucks and mauls forever...

I know you don't like it when I boo him but how else will he know he's wrong?

Apologies to John Denver (Country Roads) and Pithhead

Almost heaven, Welford Road
Where our Tigers, have played forever
Life’s the best there, one big family
Young and old together, cheering on our team

Welford Road, take me home
To the place I belong
Leicester Tigers, you’re the greatest
Take me home, to Welford Road

All the memories, since 1880
All the players, that have come and gone
Premier Cup wins, we have plenty
Europeans, we have two

Welford Road, take me home
To the place I belong
Leicester Tigers, you’re the greatest
Take me home, to Welford Road

We’ll raise our voices, to drive the lads along
“Come on you Tigers”, chanted 80 minutes long
When the game is over, no matter win or lose
We support the greatest, in the red white and green

Welford Road, take me home
To the place I belong
Leicester Tigers, you’re the greatest
Take me home, to Welford Road
Take me home, down to Welford Road
Take me home, down to Welford Road
Whoever said "one person cannot change the world' never ate undercooked bat

Think we should just start with the chorus 😂

As much as it pains me to say, Scott is absolutely right on this one …! One verse ! Imagine it increasing in volume, intensity to an increasing (eg clapped) tempo !
Love the idea !

Twitter is also saying just the Chorus so let's keep to that!

Try and get as many as we can!

Pithhead lead our fans on Sunday, it went down a storm, love the long version but as fans we got to keep it short, come on you fans get singing you will love it and hopefully Clermont will remember it for ever. (was Clermont the first time we heard it?)

And to answer the killjoys who will inevitably pop up and tell us we don't traditionally sing at Welford Rd; we didn't traditionally play Smoke on the Water for the players to run out to until the 2000/01 season when the players decided it was time for a new tradition for a new era. This feels like a new era, time to add a new tradition...

Crofty I don't think the Killjoys will object, its a lovely tune and very easy to sing to, it could be our own Sweet Caroline, its almost heaven.

To answer your question LE18, the live band at Clermont started playing “country road” on about the half hour mark and about 5 minutes later the “Welford road” version started to be heard ..it was the first time I had heard it anyway 👍
