You didn't say selected to start initially, and he wouldn't have been a hybrid then either. Hill was lock cover ,Earl was 7 and 8 cover and Wilson would've covered 8 from 6 tooRugbygramps wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 5:23 pmSo to answer my own question he wasn’t selected to start at 6 and was on the bench as a hybrid. Anyway let’s hope he is still here in 10 years timeTigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 4:08 pmI suspect he'll stay. He's improving all the time in my opinion and will give Liebenberg (who I also expect to captain) a run for the starting jersey.Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 3:59 pm
IMO he is quite away behind Liebenberg as a 6, who may well be skipper next season. Don’t remember him being selected at 6 for England. Contracts can be broken. All if buts and maybes and I hope he stays
As for his England cap, he replaced Billy Vunipola vs Ireland in the 2021 6N, in a back row of him Curry & Earl ,where he played blindside. He was also an unused sub vs Wales earlier in the tournament.

I think Martin has plateaued a bit this season, all things being equal Hanro will start next season at 8 so the 6 shirt will need filling. With uncertainty over MVS & Reffell, Hanro might end up playing 7....
I am surprised he isn't playing tomorrow night though...of course he might be injured & we aren't allowed to know that.
I think you can also surmise that Whitcombe has impressed enough otherwise you would of expected him to play as well (I would start him against the Chiefs with Ellis off the bench).
Could be a mismatch tomorrow night, but chances for a view to make a mark.

To win is not as important as playing with style!

I’m not sure Hanro will be playing at 8 next season unless I’ve missed news that Wiese is leavingWayne Richardson Fan Club wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 7:55 pm I think Martin has plateaued a bit this season, all things being equal Hanro will start next season at 8 so the 6 shirt will need filling. Hanro is best at 6 so leave him there. If one or both of MVS and Reffell end up unavailable next season then I’m sure another out and out jackler will be recruited.
As for Martin, I’m not sure he’s plateaued.. his tackling has come on massively this season and he’s really putting some quality shifts in. I would still like to see him start at lock though as that could be his calling next season.
I wouldn’t expect any ‘first team’ playing in the PRC so with Genge away no Whitcombe makes sense.

Tom Harrison now leading the squad.
Makes an already inexperienced set of forwards task a wee bit more difficult. But should be a good experience for the youngsters.
Best of luck to the Deacons and Robinsons at the maternity wards.

Big loss of experience in a very young pack but thats kind of what this competition is all about so good to see some of the youngsters getting their chanceRugbygramps wrote: ↑Fri Mar 18, 2022 4:32 pmMurphysLaw wrote: ↑Fri Mar 18, 2022 4:30 pmRobinson....

New smart balls being trialled tonight. Have a small chip in that records data.. interesting way of tracking speed of offloads, distance on kicks etc..
