Bath (AWAY) - Saturday 19th February 2022 - KO 15:00

Post by TigerFeetSteve »

This is a big game away vs an improving Bath side, need to come away with a result. Few swaps here and there, but largely the same side

I'd go

Hegarty
Potter
Porter
Scott
Nadolo
Burns
JVP
Whitcombe
Montoya
Heyes
Wells
Synman
Martin
Reffell
Liebenberg (c)

Dolly
Van Wyk
Cole/Hurd
Henderson/Green
Wiese
Wigglesworth
Kelly
Murimurivalu/Ashton

I'd rotate Kelly round with Scott, and give JVP a start.

If he's back I'm starting Heyes and hoping he gets the majority of the minutes to give Cole a slight break after a niggle

I'd rotate Synman into starting and if he's fit I'd put Henderson on the bench.

I'll swap round the back row a bit, very physical position and give Martin a start and Wiese a bit of a break.
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Not sure I would say ASAP

Would be great but I see no point in rushing him.

Perhaps a point for a separate thread but I would like to see Martin given a go at 2nd row. Maybe Bath away isn’t the time to experiment but hopefully he’ll get a chance in the weeks to come.

He’s shown he’s got the grunt to do a Wells type role and would potentially add a bit more in the loose.

He’s going to need time to develop but if you had him and Ollie Chessum coming through as young 2nd rows building up experience whilst covering 6 when needed I think we’d be in a good position next season even if we don’t bring in an international lock.

I'd start Kelly (I'd like to see him get a run of games) and Wiese (he's had a few breaks this season already), but otherwise much the same.

Maybe Nadolo on the bench, Scott at 13 and Porter on the wing.

I hope Cole will be fit to be involved.

Bath are improving but they are still a poor side. Scraped a win against an underwhelming Quins, and been hammered by Sarries, Leinster and La Rochelle. I think, like Saints, they will struggle physically against us if we can put out a similar pack. Probably should be another 5 pointer, although it will be interesting to see how they go against Wasps today with Faletau back.

Certainly wouldn’t say we need to pick points up, but obviously important to continue the run.
8 day turnaround so baring niggles I wouldn’t change anything, save Heyes into start or on the bench depending on Cole’s fitness.

We know Bath have been awful this season, but I wouldn’t underestimate them on their home turf. We’ll need to take them apart up front and play in the right areas. I feel like we’ll need the kicking game of Wiggs, Burns and Hegarty in tandem for field position. I’d go with:

Whitcombe Montoya Cole
Wells Snyman
Martin Wiese Liebenberg (c)
Wiggs Burns
Kelly Scott
Nadolo Hegarty Ashton

Dolly, Leatigaga, Heyes, Chessum, Reffell, JVP, Lancaster, Porter

Think Lancaster is a bit of a wasted bench spot with Burns and Hegarty covering 10 and Scott able to cover 12.

If Burns goes off, who takes the kicks? Hegarty I thought played great yesterday but couldn’t slot the ball between the posts to save his life.

Yes his kicking was off,but I think Borths doesn’t believe Lancaster is ready yet otherwise we would’ve seen him. Has he been involved this season yet? Maybe PRC perhaps in one or two games

He certainly played some part in the PRC game at Wasps, I have a feeling he and JVP Were the starting half backs
