Tigers vs Saints - Fri 11th Feb 22 at 1945

Post by OakhamTiger32 »

Match is Live on BT Sport 1.

Not really worth trying to guess the team as Borthwick always surprises us and we have no idea who is available.. but I'm going to try anyway! I'm guessing Wiese might have picked up a neck injury having gone off at HT today. No idea sadly about MvS or Moroni so here goes:

STARTING XV
15 Kini Murimurivalu
14 Harry Potter
13 Guy Porter
12 Matt Scott
11 Nemani Nadolo
10 Freddie Burns
9 Jack van Poortvliet
1 James Whitcombe
2 Julián Montoya
3 Dan Cole
4 Harry Wells
5 Eli Snyman
6 George Martin
7 Tommy Reffell
8 Hanro Liebenberg (c)

REPLACEMENTS
16 Nic Dolly
17 Nephi Leatigaga
18 Joe Heyes
19 Callum Green
20 Olly Robinson
21 Richard Wigglesworth
22 Bryce Hegarty
23 Dan Kelly

If Chessum is released by England I'd probably have him in the mix somewhere and I am assuming Heyes is released again. Thought Clare was solid today but would give Dolly the 16 shirt for this one. I'm torn as to who to start at 10. Ford being called up by EJ has really thrown a spanner in the works as neither Burns nor Hegarty are really in great form at the moment. Burns seems to be getting the nod at 10 and his goal kicking in tough conditions was very impressive against Worcester today so by a whisker he keeps the 10 shirt for me..

Don’t think you’ll be far away. As others have mentioned if some element of control is missing I think Hegarty could provide that from 10

I watched the game today and I wasn't impressed by either Burns or Hegarty. That said Burns kicked well so I think he will get the nod to start by a very small margin. I have been wanting to see Hegarty at 10 for some time and I am definitely not convinced by him at 15 so perhaps that's worth a go..

I'm sure Potter could make a very good full back.

The one thing that these 2 international periods have made clear, is what an integral part of the side Steward has become in such a short time. He is sorely missed when absent not just for his high ball ability, but his play as that pendulum at the back

Potter is supposedly pretty quick but I'm yet to see it. Don't get me wrong, I like him as an all round player, but I'd have expected to have gassed the defender down the line in the first half rather than checking and going back into contact where he could easily have got turned over.

All things being equal, I cannot see Borthwick axing Burns and Hegarty will almost certainly stay at 15. Kini hasn't played at full back for us in ages and seems to be filling in where he's required. If Wiese isn't fit then our carrying options will be severely depleted just in his absence alone

When there were you tube highlights of his career when he signed I’m sure some were in the 15 shirt

I wanna see Saumaki,Nadolo,Muri at some point. If Weise is out we have to add some carrying in the backs

Not a back three to kick aimlessly to.

I'd imagine Chessum will be back in next week as Lawes is supposed to be ok for selection and Hill has an outside chance.

He'd add some carrying to the pack.

Saints are such a hit and miss team it's tough to know whether they'll turn up or not. After today you'd expect Ludlum to remain with England along with Lawes, Biggar with Wales, Hutchinson with Scotland with some injuries as well I think. It'll be a tough game.

If Saumaki could only tackle like he attacks he would be a definate starter. I suspect that is the only reason Borthwick has been careful with the games he played in.

Hard to predict the lineup or the match. Saints didn't do any better against Worcester last week and, although it was away from home they did have Biggar and Hutchinson. Sure Worcester had Duhan VdM and Sutherland, but VdM at Worcester is a bit like putting a Formula 1 rear wing on a Ford Fiesta - utterly pointless.

IMO the result largely depends on how physical a pack we're able to field - if Montoya, Hanro, Wiese, Martin and Cole are in the XV then I would make us favourites. If a couple of them are unavailable then it becomes a much closer contest. If Saints get parity up front then you would probably put money on their backline doing more with the ball than ours.

I'd bet on Wigglesworth to start, beating Saints is all about control, discipline and not getting sucked into their style.

Seems the Italy game is the perfect time to introduce the likes of Heyes & chessum into the six nations and international rugby. That said yesterdays team looked like they desperately need some game time together to try and gel before taking on wales.

Laughable how both our biggest game of the year in terms attendance is during international periods.
