Lots of talent in the academy side. I hope they go well - some of them played very well in the BMC game the other week!

Ilione called up by the Eng U20’s

Says a lot that he’s called up despite not playing a game all season.

Also suggests he's nearing fitness again which is huge

Is it a concern that there’s only one Tiger in the new U20 squad? Not sure who is currently highly rated from the current crop. Vanes?

I personally don't think it's too concerning, we've just had a glut of youngsters come through.

We've had, Martin, JvP, Steward, Vanes, Kelly, Whitcombe etc all recently in U20's squads and quite a few in younger who will be U20 age still next year in L.Chessum, Cusick, Hoyt & Smith so not too worried by it.

It's also worth noting that with covid the youngsters have had probably less exposure so far still than normal, so it's worth noting that clubs who have struggled with injuries like Wasps have more representation as more of their players have played in the prem cup

Is Vanes too old to be the U20s this year? He was with them last year when young enough.

I expect Lewis Chessum would've been picked if fit.

A bit surprised by Sam Edwards being left out. Makes me wonder if Tigers have retained him as they expect him to play when Youngs is with England.

Hoyt will play England U20s at some point. Playing Championship as a prop his age is impressive.

Rob Hardwick came through the Tigers academy prior to the discipline issues as well.

Ollie Chessum didn’t get picked for England U20’s he was invited to the camp as a unofficial thing but that was about it.

Radwan wasn’t picked by any age grade teams.

If they are good enough and work hard enough it shouldn’t matter too much.

Chessum was in the under 20s training squad. He did play for England Counties. Nottingham were quite happy about it at the time.

Agree on the premise that you don't have to be playing age grade rugby to make it at the top level. James Whitcombe didn't represent England under 20s but I think most of us would think his work to date shows he's a young prop with masses of potential.

Training squad isn’t the squad though.

Whitcombe played for the U20
