Unusual move for try.

Post by Old Hob »

The Bridgend full back pulls off an unusual move. Sensible, I think, as if he'd caught the ball conventionally he would have been tackled.

Used to play with an old scrum half who used to practice that in every warm up. Don't think he ever pulled it off though.

Oddly, I played with a scrummie in Swansea who headed the ball over opposition a couple of times. would not be surprised if it used to happen a lot in lower leagues.

Nope never seen that done on purpose before.

I only saw it once in game - and I was the winger who got beaten by it. I thought he should have got double points for chutzpah…and I recall he bought me a pint as well

Saw Wells do it accidentally a few weeks back but the referee (I forget who) wrongly called it a knock on and didn’t award the try sadly.. completely accidental and not in the same league as the lad in this video but still a header leading to a try (well should have been a try)
Oakham lad born and bred, Tigers season ticket holder who is enjoying steady progression back towards the good old days!

Is it a knock on if it comes off your torso? To me a knock on has to at least come off the arm anything else should be play on

Torso has to be a knock on.

As an ex-fullback I unfortunately can remember a few incidents when fielding the highball when I misjudged it and missed the arms and popped forward off the torso, those need to be knock on's.... fortunately for me those instances were rare.....
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Does no-one remember Andy Goode 'fielding' the ball with his ample torso at Welford Road towards the end of his time with us? Entirely intentional and thoroughly enjoyed by all those present, including said Mr Goode, who as I remember it had a huge grin on his face as he did it. Cant specify the match and I dont remember it leading to a try...

Must admit my experience has always been hands/arms knock on. Legs and torso OK, hence ref shouting "Off the Leg".
Everytime you control a bouncing ball with chest and spread arms should you expect a knock on?
