Re: Next Number 10 ?
Working on the basis that Ford was/is the perfect fit for us at present, then we need to get as close to that as possible. Umaga is nowhere close to Ford. Simmonds, Lozowski, Pollard more like the quality we need.
Re: Next Number 10 ?
No to Umaga for me,squad player and I'd prefer Burns and Hegarty over him

Really don’t like signing big star names- too often they don’t work. Rugby is such a team game. Remember when we had that all star back line with May, Toomua, Manu et al? You need a team to be more than the sum of its parts. So no to Pollard for me. Simmonds ideally, he’s played in a team which has punched above its weight for some time now
Re: Next Number 10 ?
Was it solely them or the coaching? Remember Manu was also injured more often that notnortherntiger wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 10:09 am Really don’t like signing big star names- too often they don’t work. Rugby is such a team game. Without hope we are nothing, keep the faith, a Tiger for eternity
Re: Next Number 10 ?
The problem in those days was a mixture of coaching (what was our strategy other than “Chuck it to Manu or kick it and hope for a knock on”) and a pack that was feeble behind the front row. Utility 2nd/back rows who were just underpowered, slow to the breakdown, struggled to get over the gain line and struggled to retain the ball let alone take from the opposition. May was wasted.northerntiger wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 10:09 am Really don’t like signing big star names- too often they don’t work. Rugby is such a team game. It was to be one of the best signings that never happened, he did hold talks with Simon Cohen but he never quite got it over the line.
