No idea how Marcus Smith is in the breakthrough player.

I would've said Dupont all day but Kerevi has made a late burst on the outside!

Are many rugby followers really interested in these utterly bogus accolades? The article doesn't even seem to make clear who drew up the short list (a journalist?). Personally I'm also rather sceptical about the "man of the match" awards that don't sit very comfortably with the idea that rugby is a team sport. It's noticeable in the post match ritual that after he's answered a few questions the recipient usually can't get the ribbon off his neck quickly enough! World rugby player of the year or whatever it's called just seems like a sillier version of the same idea.

I will say even though I used him in a recent debate,the year Johnny Sexton won it,it should’ve been given to Marx. He was outstanding that season

Maybe of passing interest to casual TV watchers of the game - hardcore supporters probably not. I suspect most on here would take it a bit more seriously if a Tiger’s player was shortlisted, though!
