It’s certainly true that different coaches see and value different attributes.

I just think that the international game is that much quicker, with smaller margins. So to challenge for an international spot a player should have mastered the nuances of that position and demonstrated their ability in earning a starting jersey at their club.

Otherwise you get specialist finishers (in the case of Blamire) in the England squad, that aren’t suited to the role of starter at international level. (Although he didn’t do a bad job against South Africa).
Cheering on the Tigers in Detroit.
Previously a slower, shorter, less good looking version of Tom Croft.

There is a difference between England and Lions selection.

For either I would say you have to command selection for your club. Some players may well suit the game of a Lions coach than the England coach. A bullock of a wing or a speedster? A controlling scrum half or a runner.

Not sure if its been mentioned in here or not, and its coming from The Ruck, so tanking it with a pinch of salt, but they mentioned Sarries could target our Mr Genge, think he would go there?!?

If you take what Ellis has said in the past at face value then one of the reasons he re-signed with us was to work with Borthwick. Also, the fact that his leadership stock has risen both with Tigers and England makes me wonder why he'd want to move? Does this also give some credence to the Mako to Brizzle rumour? 🤔 Either way, and I hope I'm right, I don't think he will move on.

Sarries makes sense to me: more money, move nearer to Twickenham, as well coached as any team, as good if not even better chance of winning things with them! Next few Tigers’ games crucial now: beat Quinsand start well in Europe then we may hang on to players.
Lastly, when Cockerill got the sack Genge was very outspoken about no loyalty in the club and he has just been interviewed a couple of weeks back to say how pleased he was that Richard Cockerill would be coaching him again. So with Tigers not able to keep Ford it could be Genge will soon be gone too.
Hope not: always been a fan and always will be.

He also said in the same interview that he would like to finish his career here so if you are going to quote interviews please include all of the facts.

It would be interesting to know who Genge was on about when he said some of the England players don't get on. Was he taking about clubs? Individuals? Maybe it's my bias but the players seemed to be a lot happier without Farrell there v SA. Maybe it's Sarries and what they've done has drove a wedge between the players. Maybe it could be just Sarries and Exeter who don't get on? Who knows? One good thing is that I bet Genge will tell us all one day 😉

In The Times a couple of weeks ago there was an article saying that there had been resentment at the Saracens lot coming straight back in after having played no first class rugby, and them being very much a clique. It said this had been resolved. How true this is I have no idea.

Why do you assume more money? They can't make him a marquee player and have to play by the rules financially speaking so we should be able to match what they can, cap constraints allowing.

Not sure being nearer to Twickers helps him. He's planning to live back in Bristol once he retires and in the mean time has a young child at home set up in Leicestershire.

I'd also be surprised if Sarries went for an England regular. They already lose a number of players to international periods. They've also been linked with Obano who'd make more sense given he's a player that could be improved in their system and is also unlikely to regularly feature for England.

Genge is just about to open a gym in Leicester too I believe. Perhaps the club are helping out with the refurb costs……

isn't Genge one of our current 2 marquee players? So presumably we can beat what ever offer he gets from another prem club
