It's almost as if we knew Ford would be looking elsewhere and we have been courting Pollard for a while.

I was seriously thinking this whilst watching the Quins game. The spiral bomb got us a fair bit of territory and it has been quite a weapon in other matches too. Ford doesn’t have a copyright on it though, so I guess it is a skill and technique which can be trained and learned.

We might get some cross over - HP in before GF leaves, so maybe it is something Pollard will have time to pick up (if he hasn’t already).

Spiral bomb/Gary Owen is a League thing, isn't it? If so maybe that's one of Sir Kev's things to teach?

Named after an Irish Gaelic football club who invented the tactic I believe

It's a Union thing also.
Just everyone stopped doing it.

I remember Rugby 2004 there was a button just for it "Up goes the Garryowen"

Hooper quoted as saying 'we never spoke to Pollard'.... then he went to the corner of the room and had a little cry 🤣🤣

Pollard great signing, especially if we have got him without breaking the bank!

Whilst I'm sure Pollard can learn the spiral bomb, what I'd really like is Steward to learn the spiral bomb! When your fullback is fielding the ball it would be good for him to learn the skill and add to his kicking game.
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

I think the Garrryowen was just, in RL terms an 'up and under'. The spiral bomb seems another level of unpleasantness for the full back. I hope that George practices with Freddie S so that Freddie learns to deal with them. If he can kick 'em as well - great!
Actually, all the full backs.

It really isn't that much of a unique kick. Most coaches just don't want it and therefore players don't tend to practice it.
It's no coincidence that the spiral bomb started happening when Borthwick came in.

I always tend to think of Ireland in past 6N when I hear it. Although its hardly ever called a Garryowen any more even though it’s still used almost everytime a team kick and chase. Correct me if I’m wrong but the spiral and the Garryowen are two totally different kicks.
