Why would he come to us on half the salary that Japan are offering for player twice the amount of games ?

Same reason why RG Snyman and De Allende went to Munster.
Better competition in Europe.
Tigers now have the rep of being quite good for improving players now, we also have a lot of familiar faces for him.

Listening to rolling maul now saying it’s 600k compared to 1 mill in Japan.

Seriously what does pollard offer apart from a big boot and more physicality.

I think people are being a bit harsh on Pollard, he hasn't been at his best in the last 12 months but he's a top class kicker, a great defender and a good reader of the game and lets not forget a World Cup winner, he's also younger than Ford. I would also add Ford has been exceptional this season but lets not forget he also has deficiencies in his game like Pollard.
As for why he'd come to Tigers you'd imagine its because its a club heading in the right direction in the best league in the world, he's topped up his bank account for a few years in France already and after a few years at Tigers he may well go to Japan to top up the retirement fund but why waste your prime years playing in a sub-par league?

Assuming we have spoken to him, I can imagine that Borthwick's narrative and presentation was quite appealing, given where the club have come from, where we're looking like we're going, fan base, infrastructure, plans etc - money isn't everything.

If we get a man for 400k less than he could get elsewhere then that tells me all I need to know about the fibre of his fabric!

He has won at the highest level, he's not just a boot + physicality. He's clearly intelligent so will be able to adapt to whatever game plan is put in front of him, it just so happens that the Boks have limited him to a certain extent as to the way they want their 10 to play. He's not going to come in and play the same way.

Exactly, who wouldn't want to come to Tigers at the moment, Borthwick, Sinfield, Aled and the rest of the set up. The youngsters coming through. If I were that good a 10 I'd bite their hand off ! Playing behind a pack like we have and will in the future - bring it on.

TBF big boot + physicality isn’t a bad thing for a 10

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but IF Pollard does join, and with Ford leaving, would he be able to be classified as marquee?
1 marquee slot available, with Pollard (?), Genge, Montoya to fit in sounds snug.

I would presume that it was planned that George Ford was going to stay and take the marquee spot. Pollard would be a swap into that slot. Other cap management would then stay as planned?
