....nine out of ten times this would be the case!!
You are voting for a player that has played in such a way that has had a decisive impact on the game. The liklihood would be, that player, would have given his team an advantage due to his endeavours and that the outcome became a positive for his team.

Also no one on the losing team wants to win man of the match. Makes for a bad photo for sponsors
Case in Point
"It was extremely strange to be named man of the match. It was embarrassing and it definitely won't go on the mantelpiece at home," Launchbury said.
"It was a strange award that could have gone to a whole host of guys on their team."

Given that the MOTM is usually declared just before full time, I suspect we came close on Saturday!
In my defence, I was left unsupervised….

Good point - personally I’ve never been keen on MoM awards as they don’t really fit with the ethos of a team game. However, if deemed absolutely necessary I’d like them to either genuinely given for an outstanding individual performance - which quite frequently can be a player who ends up on the losing side.RagingBull wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 10:03 am Also no one on the losing team wants to win man of the match. In my younger days I used to watch Leicester City and Peter Shelton would have been M.O.M. Every week despite losing most games

He did put a shift in because Sarries did not seem to have any other line out jumpers
The stats I have heard suggest our line put performed better though.

And George Ford last season because without him some of the losses would have been much worse.mightymouse wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 12:56 pm If it was awarded to best player on the pitch regardless who had won imagine how many international
