Re: World Cup every two years?
Confirmation if it was required that player welfare ranks far below ££££'s
Re: World Cup every two years?
There already is a world Cup ever two years (okay not in this cycle due to Covid), one for the men and one for the women.
I’m fed up of all this tinkering, if it ain’t broke…
Global calendar, make it easier for the likes of Fekitoa to play for the Pacific Islands teams and more quality investment in the women’s game and Tier 2 nations, that’s all the world game needs.

They will just kill club rugby, The World Cup has to take place at a time that has minimum affect on the Southern Hemisphere and maximum detrimental affect on the leagues of the Northern nations, The Premiership will lose players to the various international tours, the Autumn Internationals and the 6 or possibly by then 7 Nations our clubs will be expected to have sufficient quality players to cover for the absentees and of course we fans will be expected to pay out large sums of money to watch what will become a sub-standard competition as our star players severely restrict their availability to their contracted club.

Re: World Cup every two years?
Aside from the player welfare issues, more international games will not necessarily mean more £££. The World Cup is exciting because it is infrequent. Look at test cricket. There seems to be a series every few weeks, there is no real buzz about them, if England lose a series its not a problem, there will be another one soon. If there is constant international rugby, people will lose interest. Particularly if its as dire as the lions tour..........
Re: World Cup every two years?
There needs to be less international rugby and not more. Players should only be asked to play one set of internationals that require leave from the clubs in non world cup years and so, if you play in the 6 nations, you do not play in the autumn internationals or vice versa. The summer tour should be a development squad.
The problem is, it is all quid pro quo. We send a development squad in the summer, we are surely going to get devlopment squads in the Autumn. Not unreasonable but not the stadium filler the RFUs needs.
The only way to deal with matters is to have a global timetable with international windows but you can pretty much guarantee that, if that ever happened, we would be playing rugby in the summer.

Just leave things as they are. It more or less works.

I would rather see some sort of world club competition than a two year RWC cycle

Yes, imagine fixtures like Toulouse v Crusaders, Tigers v Auckland Blues, Saracens v Western Stormers. That would certainly appeal!RagingBull wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 11:34 am I would rather see some sort of world club competition than a two year RWC cycle

The sooner the Kiwis stop having all their influence the better, I know particularly us and the French are no saints when it comes to stubbornness and the like but we need to stop bowing to the demands of those hypocrites and the hissy fitters in the NZRU...johnthegriff wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 10:16 am They will just kill club rugby, The World Cup has to take place at a time that has minimum affect on the Southern Hemisphere and maximum detrimental affect on the leagues of the Northern nations, The Premiership will lose players to the various international tours, the Autumn Internationals and the 6 or possibly by then 7 Nations our clubs will be expected to have sufficient quality players to cover for the absentees and of course we fans will be expected to pay out large sums of money to watch what will become a sub-standard competition as our star players severely restrict their availability to their contracted club.

This, the 12s, the 6 nations, the AIs, the rugby championship etc. May as well watch clubs that aren't in the premiership.
I'm not cynical just experienced
Re: World Cup every two years?
I have played, watched and loved this game since 1963. There have been some fabulous experiences. The seismic shift of professionalism spelled the beginning of the end. "Stick in the muds" and worse names were applied to those who advocated, not for the rejection of professionalism (it was inevitable) but caution as to how it was implemented.
It is now a helter-skelter of gigantic proportions and many sit helplessly careering and accelerating down and round with no knowing how it will end.
Of all the possible endings "well" is not one of them.
