Saracens

Post by BigDan50 »

Saracens beat Ulster 45-21 tonight, are very impressive result by Saracens away.
Looks like Saracens are going to be a force in the premiership, where do you think they will finish in the league this season?

In my view, there’s little point in using preseason results to predict league positions, Saracens won the league in 14/15 after losing to Ospreys in preseason…

Undoubtedly Sarries are strong - but have to cope now like every other club during international windows/periods ; no seemingly unlimited depth of squad and like for like replacements.
Well coached and well drilled however.Be there or there abouts, I'm sure .
Seemingly heading rapidly toward senility .....Not long or far to go now , in fact, getting worse daily.....

They’ll make the playoffs, I’m sure. Squad depth will be reduced, of course - but they don’t have European games so their fixture list will be considerably lighter than usual!

Why don't they have European games?

Maybe England just have 12 spots across the 2 comps.

No, more like its Chris111 mis-using "Europe" when actually meaning the Champions Cup (a very common and confusing occurrence). All teams from the Premiership, Top14 and URC play in "Europe", either in tbe Champions Cup or the Challenge Cup.

Saracens are in the Challenge Cup, so will probably have less challenging opponents.

Sarries will finish top 4 and could win it. But I couldn't pick my nose 😂

I reckon Sarries might have a season similar to Tigers at times under Cockers where they are laboured early on due to injuries and international call-ups then in the final quarter of the season they will spring to life with their first XV fit, win a run of games to fire them into the playoffs from which anything could happen.

1.Vunipola 2.George 3.Koch 4.Kpoku 5.Itoje 6.Isiekwe 7.Earl 8.Vunipola
9.van Zyl 10.Farrell 11.Malins 12.Tompkins 13.Lozowski 14.Daly 15.Goode

1.Barrington 2.Woolstencroft 3.Mawi 4.Hunter-Hill 5.Swinson 6.Wray 7.Reffell 8.Venter
9.de Haas 10.Vunipola 11.Lewington 12.Taylor 13.Morris 14.Segun 15.Maitland

That 1st XV could still challenge anyone in the Premiership, the only weak spot I see there is 9 but I'd presume they will just change the game plan to play off 10 a lot more where they've got depth. Their 2nd XV is a lot weaker though, especially in the pack. Before the cap sanctions their 2nd XV was unsurprisingly just taking the mickey.

1.Vunipola 2.George 3.Koch 4.Itoje 5.Kruis 6.Isiekwe 7.Earl 8.Vunipola
9.Spencer 10.Farrell 11.Daly 12.Barritt 13.Tompkins 14.Williams 15.Goode

1.Carre 2.Singleton 3.Lamositele 4.Skelton 5.Kpoku 6.Hunter-Hill 7.Clark 8.Wray
9.Wigglesworth 10.Vunipola 11.Gallagher 12.Taylor 13.Lozowski 14.Maitland 15.Malins

I've not even included Rotmi Segun or Juan Figallo in that either. They were just having a laugh.

Apologies - I didn’t realise they were in the Challenge Cup. Still, don’t think they’ll focus too much on it…Premiership will be far more important for them

Agreed. They'll want to re-establish their winning reputation ASAP (their moral and ethical reputation is shot to pieces and will take years to rebuild).

The second set of XVs I've listed are what they could field in 2019/20 before Figallo retired. Just showing the difference that the salary cap fallout has made to their depth even if the starting XV is still outstanding.

IMO Sarries will make the playoffs> They have had a year in which to re-set and rejuvinate against lesser opposition. Looking forward to their trip to Welford Road, a good bench mark to see where both teams are.
