Greatest ever Tigers XV

Post by Tigers86asw »

Just a bit of fun- sure we will all have different opinions…

G Murphy
J May
O Smith
M Tuilagi
R Underwood
J Stranksy
A Healey
M Ayerza
P Wheeler
D Cole
M Johnson
B Kay
M Corry
N Back
D Richards

T Youngs
M Castrogiavanni
T Croft
L Moody
J Kronfeld
B Youngs
P Howard
T Stimpson

Ollie Smith probably the most controversial but then again I never saw Paul Dodge or Woodward play, and Smith in his prime was wonderful. Stransky over Ford was hard and I need Howard n the bench as he covers centre as well. I loved seeing Kronfeld play- hard as nails. I know the subs aren’t balanced but Croft played five times for the Lions- I couldn’t leave him out, plus Corry could play in the second row.

Personally I'd have
A Tuilagi instead of May
Greenwood instead of Smith
I'd start Croft over Corry at 6
Other than that I'm pretty close
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

8 Corry
9 Healey
10 Flood
11 A. Tuilagi
12 Allen
13 M. Tuilagi
14 Goneva
15 Murphy (just ahead of Stimpson)

I'd have Pat Howard at 12, Cockers at Hooker, and Ellis on the bench over Young's.

I like Ollie Smith being there though, but would also be happy with Greenwood.

Edit: keep thinking about this now, and I want put Rowntree in but don't want lose Ayerza.

Think these are fair. I never thought Greenwood played that well for Tigers but he was a superb player. I think Ford is probably the best fly half tigers have ever had but he has not played in a great team- imagine Ford behind a tigers pack from 98-08!

Manu’s time at tigers ended badly and I don’t think he played well for us for quite a few years but I saw him in 2013 demolish teams, Howard much more consistent though.

Lote Tuiqurri was the greatest footballer I saw in a Tigers shirt and he was past his sell by date by the time he joined us, he'd be in my team all day long. Harry Ellis was our best scrum half, if England hadn't broken him playing him when he was injured allegedly, he'd have gone into the record books.

Think this proves how blessed we have been in the ABC club over the many years, without even getting started on the other teams.

Ayerza, Roberts, Castro.
Johnson, Van Herden.
Miller, Richards Kronfeld.
Healy, Stransky.
Loughead, Howard, Tuquri, Murphy
Hare.

Rowntree, Kayser, Cole, Corry, Croft, Ellis, Flood, Underwood (R).

Would love to include Cusworth, Barry Evans & Kardooni, but there just isn't room...

Of our present squad can see Genge & Montoya getting into the "23" depending on how much they actually play for us.
To win is not as important as playing with style!

Let's be honest - it's Martin Johnson + 14 others for the vast majority of people.
