Round 23 in the Top 14 was played at the weekend:

Castres 12 Clermont 0 ( there's little hope of Clermont now making the play-offs)
SF 21 Pau 18
Brive 17 Lyon 31 (the possibility of relegation looms for Brive as they've three difficult matches left to play)
Racing 40 Biarritz 7
La Rochelle 32 Perpignan 16
Toulon 19 Toulouse 15 (a distinct possibility that Toulouse won't make the play-offs)
Montpellier 22 Bordeaux/Bègles 23 (a very close top of the table encounter, shaded by B/B)

Here's the table with the remaining three fixtures for each club on 30th April/1st May, 21st May and 5th June.

1 Montpellier 23/69 points Lyon(a) Racing(h) Clermont(a)
2 Bordeaux/Bègles 23/67 Toulon(h) Lyon(h) Perpignan(a)
3 La Rochelle 23/62 Toulouse(a) SF(h) Lyon(a)
4 Castres 23/62 Biarritz(a) Perpignan(h) Pau(a)
5 Racing 23/61 Pau(a) Montpellier(a) Toulon(h)
6 Toulouse 23/58 La Rochelle(h) Brive(a) Biarritz(h)
7 Lyon 23/58 Montpellier(h) B/B(a) La Rochelle(h)
8 Toulon 23/55 B/B(a) Pau(h) Racing(a)
9 Clermont 23/53 SF(h) Biarritz(a) Montpellier(h)
10 Pau 23/50 Racing(h) Toulon(a) Castres(h)
11 S Français 23/49 Clermont(a) La Rochelle(h) Brive(h)
12 Brive 23/42 Perpignan(a) Toulouse(h) SF(a)
13 Perpignan 23/35 Brive(h) Castres(a) B/B(h)
14 Biarritz 23/24 Castres(h) Clermont(h) Toulouse(a)

I believe that Ronan O'Gara's La Rochelle could well take the title this year, but they're still involved in the Champions' Cup that'll make the task harder.
Montpellier's influential scrum-half Cobus Reinach dislocated a shoulder and will miss the rest of the season.
Castres are a very workmanlike team and mustn't be discounted.
Will holders Toulouse make the play-offs?
At the other end of the table, Biarritz are already relegated, but Perpignan could well avoid relegation at the expense of Brive who travel to Perpignan next Saturday for what will surely be an explosive match!

Maxime Médard, at the age of 35, has announced his retirement at the end of this season. He’s only played for one club, Toulouse, for whom he played 359 matches and scored 113 tries and he played 63 times for Les Bleus. Chapeau, Maxime, you’ve had a fabulous career !

Top14 round 24 results, and it's beginning to warm up with only two rounds left before the play-offs:

Lyon 43 Montpellier 20
Clermont 29 S Français 26 (Clermont's chances of the play-offs now depend on other clubs losing)
Biarritz 13 Castres 48 (Biarritz are now officially relegated)
Pau 24 Racing 42
Perpignan 27 Brive 10 (Perpignan are now only 3 points below Brive. One of these clubs will have to play-off against the runner-up of ProD2 to play Top14 next season)
Toulouse 23 La Rochelle 16 (4 precious points for Toulouse and none for La Rochelle)
Bordeaux/Bègles 16 Toulon 29 (Toulon are really on a roll now and have a real chance of making the play-offs)

1 Montpellier 69 points
2 B/B 67
3 Castres 67
4 Racing 66
5 Lyon 63
6 Toulouse 62
7 La Rochelle 62
8 Toulon 59
9 Clermont 57
10 Pau 50
11 S Français 50
12 Brive 42
13 Perpignan 39
14 Biarritz 24

Round 25 will be played on May 21st:
Biarritz v Clermont
B/B v Lyon (2nd v 5th)
Brive v Toulouse (Toulouse must win to be in the top 6 and Brive must win to keep Perpignan at bay!)
Castres v Perpignan ( a tough ask for Perpignan to win at Castres)
Montpellier v Racing (1st v 4th)
Toulon v Pau (surely a bp win for Toulon!)
La Rochelle v S Français

Round 26 will be on June 5th:
Clermont v Montpellier
Lyon v La Rochelle
Racing v Toulon
Pau v Castres
S Français v Brive
Toulouse v Biarritz
Perpignan v B/B

Clubs finishing first and second will automatically qualify for the semis and those in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th will play-off to reach the semis.

The penultimate round of the Top14 is this weekend:

Biarritz v Clermont
Bordeaux/Bègles v Lyon
Brive v Toulouse ( Brive need the win to stay clear of the drop zone and Toulouse need points to qualify for the play-offs)
Castres v Perpignan (Castres are 3rd and will be gunning for a home semi-final and Perpignan are in the drop zone)
Montpellier v Racing
Toulon v Pau
La Rochelle v S Français (surprisingly, HCup finalists La Rochelle are currently 7th, but will surely beat SF to improve their chances of making the play-offs)

Elsewhere, in ProD2, we know the semi-finalists. Mont de Marsan v Nevers and Bayonne v Oyonnax, to be played on May 29th, and the final is the following week in which the winners will be promoted and the runner-up will have a play-off match at home against the 13th placed side in the Top14, which'll be either Brive or Perpignan.

The system involving the ProD2 sides seems eminently sensible, if championship sides are ever going to be given the chance to move to the premiership something maybe the English should do.

Top14 round 25 results:

Castres 28 Perpignan 12
Bordeaux/Bègles 42 Lyon 10
Biarritz 8 Clermont 26
La Rochelle 32 S Français 13
Montpellier 22 Racing 13
Toulon 37 Pau 20
Brive 8 Toulouse 26

1 Montpellier 73 points
2 Bordeaux/B 72
3 Castres 72
4 La Rochelle 67
5 Racing 66
6 Toulouse 66
7 Toulon 64
8 Lyon 63
9 Clermont 62
10 Pau 50
11 S Français 50
12 Brive 42
13 Perpignan 39
14 Biarritz 24

With one round to go, the scrap to secure a home semi final is now between the top 3, each of whom travel in the last round. Toulon have shot up the table recently and are away to Racing on the last day and may well qualify for the play-offs at the expense of Racing, so keep your eyes on this result. Toulouse will surely get a bp victory at home to already relegated Biarritz while Lyon have a slim chance of making the play-offs at home to La Rochelle. At t'other end, Perpignan have a tough home match against second placed Bordeaux and Brive need to win at Stade Français.

Round 26 will be played on Sunday June 6th with each match kicking off at 17h00 local time:

Clermont v Montpellier
Lyon v La Rochelle
Pau v Castres
Perpignan v Bordeaux/Bègles
Racing v Toulon
S Français v Brive
Toulouse v Biarritz

The play-offs for the semi-finals will be played on June 11/12, the semi-finals on June 17/18 and the final at the Stade de France on June 24th.

This weekend's news:

Bayonne will play Mont de Marsan (Vereniki Goneva's last match for M de M) in next Sunday's ProD2 final in Montpellier to decide who will be promoted to the Top14.

Massy and Soyaux/Angoulême are promoted from Nationale to ProD2 replacing Narbonne and Bourg-en-Bresse.

The final round of the Top14 will take place next Sunday with places in the top 6 up for grabs and either Brive or Perpignan to avoid 13th position and a tough play-off against the runner-up in ProD2.

Clermont v Montpellier
Lyon v La Rochelle
Pau v Castres
Perpignan v Bordeaux/Bègles
Racing v Toulon
S Français v Brive
Toulouse v Biarritz

Round 26 was played yesterday and we now go into the play-offs.

Clermont 20 Montpellier 15
Lyon 26 La Rochelle 29 (La Rochelle showing their pedigree with an outstanding away win at play-off contenders Lyon)
Pau 16 Castres 26 (an impressive Castres finish the normal season top of the Top14)
Perpignan 22 Bordeaux/Bègles 15 (a win that deprives BB of an automatic semi-final match)
Racing 21 Toulon 16 (Toulon's end of season charge comes to an end)
S Français 17 Brive 33 (Brive win emphatically to ensure Top14 survival after a dodgy few weeks teetering near the bottom)
Toulouse 80 Biarritz 15 (Biarritz had thrown in the towel a while ago and got the pasting that was expected)

1 Castres 76 points
2 Montpellier 74
3 Bordeaux/Bègles 72
4 Toulouse 71
5 La Rochelle 71
6 Racing 70
7 Clermont 66
8 Toulon 65
9 Lyon 64
10 Pau 50
11S Français 50
12 Brive 46
13 Perpignan 43
14 Biarritz 24

And so to the play-offs:
June 11th Toulouse v La Rochelle (winner to play Castres in the first semi final on June 17th in Nice)
June 12th Bordeaux/Bègles v Racing (winner to play Montpellier in the second semi final on June 18th also in Nice)

Bayonne are champions of ProD2 and will play Top14 next season, having thrashed Mont de Marsan 49/20.
Mont de Marsan will be at home to Perpignan on June 12th to decide which side plays Top14 next season.
