Friday night's June 24th) Top14 final is between Castres and Montpellier (as it was in 2017/18 when Castres won 29-13).

Teams:
Castres : 15. Dumora ; 14. Palis, 13. Combezou, 12. Botitu, 11. Nakosi ; 10. Urdapiletta, 9. Arata ; 7. Champion de Crespigny, 8. Ben-Nicholas, 6. Babillot (cap.) ; 5. Staniforth, 4. Vanverberghe ; 3. Hounkpatin, 2. Barlot, 1. Walcker.

Remplaçants : 16. Ngauamo, 17. De Benedittis, 18. Jacquet, 19. Delaporte, 20. Fernandez, 21. Cocagi, 22. Zeghdar, 23. Chilachava.

Montpellier : 15. Bouthier ; 14. Vincent, 13. Doumayrou, 12. Serfontein, 11. Rattez ; 10. Garbisi, 9. Paillaugue ; 7. Camara (cap.), 8. Mercer, 6. Bécognée ; 5. Chalureau, 4. Verhaeghe ; 3. Haouas, 2. Guirado, 1. Lamositele.

Remplaçants : 16. Paenga-Amosa, 17. Forletta, 18. Capelli, 19. Janse Van Rensburg, 20. Aprasidze, 21. Pollard, 22. Ngandebe, 23. Thomas

Of interest to Tigers' supporters is that Handré Pollard will be on the bench as Philippe Saint André prefers the Italian Garbisi at outside half. Ex Bath No 8 Zach Mercer has quickly become an integral part of this Montpellier team, with whom he has one more season on his contract before heading back to England. Eddie has shown interest in him, maybe for the 2023 World Cup - but which English club will sign him? This will be former French captain Guillaume Guirado's last game before retirement, but will he go out with a bang?
These two sides finished first and second in the Top14 (as Tigers and Saracens) and the game could be close. I've a hunch that Montpellier may sneak it. I don't know why, but my semi-final predictions went up in smoke, so who knows?

23-3 in favour of Montpellier at half time, for whom Mercer is influential.

Castres finally showing up in the 2nd half, but still can't move the scoreboard.

If I were bottom seed in the cup next season, I'd be thrilled to draw them.

Castres didn’t finish in first place at the end of the regular season for no reason. They are a very good team but didn’t get their game together on the big occasion. If Tigers were to be drawn with Castres, I’d be wary, particularly for the away match.

Considering the European pedigree, and the other potential draws, I'd still be thrilled.

A somewhat odd occurrence that the two finalist from the Challenge Cup last year each won their respective leagues this year.

Zach Mercer deserved the Man of the match award, but I wonder if Eddie was watching?

Won’t pick him anyway if he’s playing in France

His contract with Montpellier expires at the end of next season so he may well be looking for an English club in August 2023.
