Whilst we are all applauding and back slapping Tigers for 'setting up' a women's why have they had to go out of county and are they just doing what AP said last week they didnt want to do by partnering with Lightening?

If it was about cut and pasting a ready made side with a highly professional setup they could have easily partnered with Lightening which could have extended to local talent working its way through the college as an academy set up.

If we are wanting to build a 'locally sourced side' as per Andreas comments last week then why have they not partnered with Loughborough RFC, Lutterworth, Sileby, Old Newtonians, etc?

For years Lichfield pulled the wool over peoples eyes with some very dubious ways of avoiding relegation and using RFU paid staff to cherry pick local talent into their ranks. Now they seem to be doing the same again with the Tigers branding which can only have an impact on local clubs.

Why does any link need to be had with Lichfield anyway?

Lightning have partnered with Northampton Saints - https://www.lboro.ac.uk/news-events/new ... on-saints/
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/rugby-union/59036618 so that may not have been a possibility.

From what I gather a lot of the players are also from varying Uni teams and some even players who had stopped playing but got recommended by local coaches to try out.

Leicester said when the subject first came up that unlike some premiership clubs ( quins) they were not going to just bring an existing Premier 15 side into their set up but rather build a side from the ground up. Lichfield, despite providing the England team with several players, were denied entry into the Premier 15's. Leicester have partnered with them to build a team that in the future can be ready to challenge for inclusion in the Premier 15's.

Yeh
It makes sense from Tigers and Lightning POV though.
IF true I suspect Tigers feel they have enough foundation down to absorb a league spot now and that doing it through Litchfield might take too long. For Loughborough it's what halves the travel time. Saints didn't want their branding down either. I guess Tigers would now have a semi pro setup and a good grassroots setup in Litchfield so the pathway would be formed and ready.

I suspect if all the rumours are true Loughbough Lightning will change to Tigers branding.

It makes massive sense, but would seem strange that their tie-up with Saints has only lasted a season.

would make total sense but seems unlikely in the short term - Lightning/Saints (under Saints branding) have just announced a girls rugby camp in May with both Lightning England stars plus a couple of Saints men joining the camp. Obviously not a deal breaker but shows there is some commitment to the existing link

Fantastic result for the Leicestershire Ladies Rugby team at the weekend winning the County Div 1 final (having only just come up from the 2nd Div). It would be great for the club to give some coverage of this to show how much the Women's game is coming on in the county and the grass roots player's are there to support the Tigers Women's team.

Congratulations to the ladies great result. You are quite right what you say but Tigers and LRFU have been at loggerheads for years now, so I wouldn’t hold your breath.
