Re: Tom Youngs Verdict
Interesting statement by Ian Tempest.
"I would like to place on record that whilst I don’t condone the actions of
Tom Youngs it was an unusual and highly emotional ending to the match
for both teams, considering the way that the last 10 minutes of the match
was played out. During the conversation that took place on the field
immediately at the end of the match with Tom Youngs, I never once felt
threatened or intimidated by his actions
Tom Youngs has apologised and I didn’t expect the matter to be taken
any further or I would have reported it to the RFU discipline department."
Mr Tempest added that following Mr Youngs’ apology, a few days
after the game, he had considered the matter closed.

Re: Tom Youngs Verdict
Fair play to Ian Tempest
Was the piece about the ending of the game a hint that he was more concerned by the Bristol benches actions?

Re: Tom Youngs Verdict
Apology and the case was closed as per Tempest.
The RFU are pathetic!!

Re: Tom Youngs Verdict
probably a fair punishment, and fair play to Tempest to come out and say that too
Re: Tom Youngs Verdict
Good to see Tempest's attitude to the event. Clearly he didn't report it so who did?
In the end a gentle tap on the wrist and a 'time served' and 'education' approach.

Re: Tom Youngs Verdict
I believe the Lam investigation is a totally separate matter. That said it would be good to have a progress update.

Wouldn't hold your breath on any Lam punishment!

There is an argument that all pro players might benefit from doing the Ref course...as of course a Mr K Dickson might....

Re: Tom Youngs Verdict
Good to hear Youngs apologised and from the suggested timeline before being told of the citing. That's good.
Tempest has done him a favour with that statement it's a very honest one and credit to him for that. He could have easily just stated the fact and thrown Tom to the wolves.
I like the punishment a lot. Making Tom take the reffing course and then officiate age grade games is great. Not only from a Youngs educational stand point but also for the age grade players who get to be reffed by a
former Lions and England hooker. They could learn quite a bit and it would obviously be good event for them as well. Maybe Tom will mix officiating with farming in his post playing days, Nigel Owens combined the two.

Re: Tom Youngs Verdict
Tempest considered the Tom Youngs incident closed and did not expect anything further. The RFU are still looking into the Lam/Borthwick situation.
So case is still open for the DORs.
