Biggar played well, the majority of his passing was really crisp and on the money. Thought Aki answered some of his critics too.

I appreciate it’s the first game and some players are still yet to come, but two playmakers (at least the concept of two flyhalfs at 10 and 12) has been worked out to death now and certainly won’t work against the Boks as was proved in the World Cup final.

Adam Beard replaces Alun Wyn and Navidi replaces Tipuric, Connor Murray is the new captain.....

Beard and Navidi being called up. Navidi is a good shout as he covers the entire backrow. Beard on the other hand… got to think that’s Gatland’s Welsh bias as there’s no chance Beard is better than Gray or Ryan.

Glad for Navidi he was so unlucky not to be picked in the original squad. Man what did James Ryan do to annoy Gatland though, Beard was really good for Wales circa 2018 but hasn’t really hit the heights for them since then.

Murray as captain? At least it ain’t Farrell.

All told , something of a regulation win for The Lions.Have to agree with those who state that Dan Biggar looked the part but the loss of Alun Wyn Jones is a definite blow.Whatever our views of him as a player , his captaincy and leadership qualities are unquestionable.Wish him well and hope for a speedy recovery.

Johannesburg is in the middle of an exponential increase of Covid, led by the Delta variant. Hospitals are overwhelmed, no ICU beds available. Patients are being transferred to other provinces. Cape Town is okay at the moment but cases increasing. Not sure how how clever it is to continue with the tour, as much as I have been looking forward to it.

Erasmus has said there will be no problems with the Georgia or Lions tests due to the size of their squad
