Challenge Cup Quarter final 2021 v Newcastle
My thoughts on the up coming match with Newcastle are a tad confused, tempting to load the side for the game, but I think I would rotate again and have as many players fit and up to speed for the last matches in the Premiership.
"If you want entertainment, go to the theatre," says Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill. "Rugby players play the game to win.15/1/21.
Re: Quarter final
I think we will bring in a few more of the experienced players but but still keep a couple of the younger players in.
I would personally go for the following.
Genge
Youngs
Cole
Henderson
Wells
Liebenberg
Wallace
Wiese
Youngs
Ford
Murimurivalu
Kelly
Moroni
Potter
Steward
Heyes
Clare
Whitcombe
Martin
Reffell
JVP
McPhilips
Scott
Aim is obviously to win but think we can rotate a couple of players to keep everyone fresh and match fit. Also I’m not sure some of our ‘best’ players would benefit from 2 weeks of as otherwise may be rusty for the week after in the premiership.

Re: Quarter final
I'm looking forward to it, personally I'd go similar with a few tweaks
15 Steward
14 Potter
13 Moroni
12 Kelly
11 Porter
10 Ford
9 Youngs
1 Genge
2 Clare
3 Heyes
4 Henderson
5 Wells
6 Martin
7 Liebenberg
8 Wiese
16 Youngs
17 De Bruin
18 Cole
19 Lavannini
20 Wallace
21 White
22 McPhillips
23 Scott
I'd bring Ford and Genge back in, one more week to find for them, but that cab be worried about another time.
Liebenberg has had a week off, I'd let Martin start again though. I'd give Reffell the week off this time (been a while since he's not been in a 23)
Wells I'd just swap with Lavannini, Henderson did well so I'd retain him.
Clare earnt the ¼'s '2' Jersey, but I'd go for Youngs on the bench as some depth, similar I'd put Cole onto the bench. Make sure Hurd, Whitcombe and Dolly all know they did well and showed us why the future is bright.
Henry isn't a 15 long term IMO so bring Steward or Kini in at 15, and I'd rotate Kelly back into the starting line up for Scott or Moroni.
15 Steward
14 Potter

Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

I’d go for:
1. Genge
2. Clare
3. Cole
4. Henderson
5. Wells
6 Liebenberg
7. Reffell
8. Wiese
9. Youngs
10. Ford

14. Potter
15. Steward
16. Youngs 17. De Bruin 18. Heyes 19. Green 20. Martin 21. JvP 22. JMcP 23. Porter
If Nadolo is 100% fully fit I might include him but wouldn’t rush him back if not ready

Re: Quarter final
I’d love to see a spine of the team retained from yesterday personally. I’d go for something like this:
15 - Steward
14 - Potter
13 - Moroni
12 - Kelly
11 - Porter
10 - JMcP
9 - Youngs
8 - Wiese
7 - Wallace
6 - Martin
5 - Wells
4 - Henderson
3 - Cole
2 - Clare
1 - de Bruin
16 - Youngs
17 - Genge
18 - Hurd
19 - Chessum
20 - Liebenberg
21 - JVP
22 - Ford
23 - Scott
Gives Heyes and Reffell a rest, if the game needs Ford on then can bring him on, but I’d give JMcP the keys again at 10. Gives the majority of the starting players who got us to the 1/4s a chance to show, with a strong bench to come on if needed to shore things up. Good mix on bench and in starting XV. That’s my view anyway!

Re: Quarter final
You mean Potter at 14 Scott? Think Porter played well yesterday but he’s more of a centre for me. Would definitely like to see Potter given another start

Re: Quarter final
More than happy to keep core of yesterday’s team but I think we need to be cognisant of Falcon’s second half last time.

Re: Quarter final
Champions’ Cup QFs: Clermont v Toulouse. Bordeaux v Racing. Exeter v Leinster. La Rochelle v Sale. Each match could be close but my semifinal teams are Toulouse, Bordeaux, Leinster(unfortunately!) and La Rochelle.
