And the RFU don’t think the championship is as good a league...?!
The RFU made some idiotic comment about the Championship not producing England players which must have been an off the cuff remark by an idiot in a suit not aware of the number of players (particularly props) in the England squad who have played Championship rugby as part of their development.

Vunipola and Genge at Bristol
Cole at Bedford
Williams at Nottingham and Jersey
Sinckler at Richmond and Ealing
Stuart at Nottingham
West at Nottingham

Only ones in and around the squad not to were Heyes and Obano. That's just the props.

Agree with RB watching players who perform well against Sarries is a good way to scout the promising Championship players who could do well in the Prem. Always space for a destructive scrummager.

Couldn’t have put it better! The championship is vital to young players development, and to giving those who entered the sport late to stake their claim for higher honours. That list of front rowers alone says it all Sam!

Great result for Pirates.Sarries can't afford too many like this in a shortened campaign.

See here for streams of Championship rugby, it's PPV
Thank you for passing this on. I watched the Coventry match and the coverage was good. The championship needs all the money they can get!

He had a good game although they all looked rusty- unsurprisingly. Andy Forsythe played too but kept knocking on but they'd had a long hold up in the match due to injuries so must have been frozen .

I’m devastated that Sarries lost. NOT! Great result for the Pirates. And shall Trelawny live!

It’s a short season in the Championship. Sarries can’t afford too many losses if they want to annoy the Prem again.

Can we dream that Sarries don’t win the Championship?

What then for their England players?

westwinds31 wrote: Sat Mar 06, 2021 7:11 am Whilst I’m pleased that this is getting underway, there are always losers in rugby. A lot of fringe Premiership players haven’t had any game time, so have gone on loan to Championship clubs. Great for them but it means that some players who have been patiently waiting for a year to play are being left out, just holding tackle bags so the Prem boys can play, in case they’re needed in the top flight, through injury. It’s a difficult balance but more proof that the Championship and below are being screwed and left to rot.
Certainly agree that the RFU are screwing the Championship, but how big a squad could many of them afford after Covid and the cut in RFU funding? Would some struggle to have a squad of of over 30? If, and I'm happy to be corrected on this, loan players wages are part paid by the Premiership club they come from, does this not give the Championship clubs the chance to have a bigger squad for similar amounts of money, meaning they can rotate more and cope with injuries better. Yes, some players at the lower end may lose out, but would they have been in the squad anyway with finances being what they are?

Interesting point in the Guardian article about the funding the top 3 french divisions are receiving in a TV deal. Maybe broadcasters such as BT could/should bin off covering German and Australian football, and put the funding more into things like Championship and Women's Prem rugby?

Yes but they actually have people who watch those leagues.
French rugby doesn't have the same level of competition as over here.

also half time Nottingham 3 Ealing 26
Nottingham sound very rusty not a surprise since they have only had a week or so together

Not sure where to post this, but explains why we didn't see Ilione plays for Notts this afternoon in the champ as he played for England u20s yesterday.

Good to see Vanes get some minutes too if he came off the bench.
