Championship rugby

Post by loretta »

I've got to say that there's a disgraceful lack of support from RFU for the championship in these testing times.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/55879591

It seems that clubs could lose significant amounts of cash for playing. But, if half the league didn't play, how valid a season would it be? Could the RFU, for example, support promotion?
In my defence, I was left unsupervised….

Bad news this, both for Champ players who have been training on and off for the best part of a year waiting to play again, and the squad players of Prem sides who would be turning out for these sides. It will be interesting if teams pull out, as you say, the RFU will be desperate to get Sarries back up and the teacher’s favourite, Ealing, with their money.

Have to say I'd expect the Championship would be left to rot if it wasn't for Sarries!

Shameful but completely unsurprising from the RFU...

Have we missed the announcement of new competition between the RFU & PRL to see who can be more clueless?

Whilst I’m pleased that this is getting underway, there are always losers in rugby. A lot of fringe Premiership players haven’t had any game time, so have gone on loan to Championship clubs. Great for them but it means that some players who have been patiently waiting for a year to play are being left out, just holding tackle bags so the Prem boys can play, in case they’re needed in the top flight, through injury. It’s a difficult balance but more proof that the Championship and below are being screwed and left to rot.

Pirates 25-17

Their front row are destroying Saracens
Tyack might be a good signing at Tighthead

13 team ring fenced prem and Sarries not being one of those would make for an interesting league! Credit to Pirates, didn’t see the game but sounds like they outplayed Sarries.

And the RFU don’t think the championship is as good a league...?!

Denying Sarries even a LBP is a great result
