Stephen Jones said that they would have been just as good no matter how much they were paid, but he didn’t say that the only way they were all in one team was because they were cheating. Jamie George points out the quality of their academy, as have others. But it’s easy to recruit quality youngsters when you have their record, which in turn was achieved by cheating. People talk about their esprit de corps, yes they are very tight knit and loyal, but get a group together, pay them over the odds, encourage them to look down on other sides when they get away with it (remember the complaints about their attitude after games?), then win everything and that’s what you get. Achieved again by, you guessed it, cheating.

When I think about it in depth, anything good at Sarries is tarnished with their financial doping. It’s going to take a long time before that changes, and I’m not going to shed a tear if they go to the wall in the process.
Generally agree with this. Key point being that Sarries will reap the benefits of their financial doping for many years to come.

In the end they are cheats.

They took part in a competition (league) where one of the rules was the size of the salary cap. They were punished for knowingly and wilfully taking steps to breach this rule and were punished.

No different from playing with 16 men. You know you can't do it.

Europe is different. Different leagues with different financial rules.

Whether you agree with the rules is irrelevant.

The problem is that there is no shame anymore and when caught in the act there are no resignations.

We have the same problem in politics with a PM who has been sacked twice for lying and still continues to tell great porkies without remorse (world beating track and trace system by June, etc.). In the past those caught out put their hands up and were shown the door but not anymore.

There is no excuse for what Saracens did and there is no doubt in my mind that it has damaged our game in many ways as pointed out by others. If they fail to regain access to the Premiership there are many other clubs with a better moral compass ready to take their place.

Sarries have a legal plan ready if the Championship doesn’t go ahead,it’s behind the DT paywall. Things could get messy!

All it really says is that their board has drawn up contingency plans which involve regulatory and legal challenges to avoid being exiled from the top flight for another year.

Pre-emptive action would be taken, no exact details divulged but they would be 'ahead of the game'.

Oh, and that Andrew Rogers (PRL) has visited them and Saracens board member Vic Luck states they are operating well below the £7m Salary Cap (eventually :smt002 )
