There have "allegedly" been some shady dealings with Mohammed Altrad, the sugar daddy of Montpellier who, maybe with Laporte's help, became official sponsor of the XV de France. Also, a couple of years ago, Montpellier were sanctioned by the French Rugby Federation for these "financial irregularities", and it is said that their fine was reduced due to the influence of Laporte.
Very shady indeed!

Additionally, Laporte is standing to be re-elected as President of the FFR, for which the elections are due to be held next month.

Sounds pretty straightforward. Plenty of evidence that Laporte instructed a disciplinary panel to reduce a penalty against Montpellier because of Altrad's sponsorship of French Rugby and his personal business dealings with Laporte.

Whether anyone will actually punished for it is a different matter. Typical of the culture at the top of international rugby.

Interesting stuff. Regardless of whether he is eventually charged with anything you would think it is likely to have a negative effect on his attempt to get re-elected.

Strangely enough, there are some who are still declaring their support for him. I know nothing of the other candidate Florian Grill, who may be equally shady!

A seeming lack of honesty and/or integrity never disqualified anyone from holding office.....

Some might say their absence are required qualifications for holding office these days...
No, not that one!

I know you don't like it when I boo him but how else will he know he's wrong?
