Pro 14 - Coach of the year, guess who!

Post by WirralExile »

I don't want to ruffle feathers but....

So, a surprised Mr R Cockerill esq has been named Pro 14 coach of the year. Voted for by peers, club coaches, captains and vice captains. They topped Conference B but missed out on a final play off place losing to Ulster.

He's done a brilliant job up there, simple as that.

The rights or wrongs concerning the end of his tenure at Welford Road would still divide opinion amongst Leicester fans. What is not open to debate however is the superb job he has done with Edinburgh since taking over - transforming their fortunes and making them the pre-eminent Scottish club side.Richard Cockerill's reputation since leaving Leicester has only been enhanced.

Good for him! Great coach, interesting character, fan of his or no I think we can all agree we'd be in a better spot now if he'd stayed. Oh for the days when 4th was considered a travesty.

Oh for the days when you could book tickets for the final as soon as the offers came out because you KNEW Tigers would be there.
I am neither clever enough to understand nor stupid enough to play this game

He was stuffed by player power and their man on the Board. Some internationals wanted flash back play, so got AM who has proven no better since, instead of melding Cockers spirit with a proper size set of proper coaches.

No problem with Cockers but since he left haven’t Edinburgh won as much as Tigers??
If you don't go in hard it's not a tackle it's an insult.

Depends on your definition of 'won' and I'm pretty sure that they've lost a lot less.

Winning for me is trophies in the cabinet. I agree that currently Edinburgh look closer to winning something than Tigers but neither has won anything for a while!

Edinburgh were where we have been for two seasons, under-performing badly, and without the tradition, spirit and resources. He's done a good job in a place where he is appreciated for the qualities that some find distasteful or inadequate.
