Calm down ? Why aren’t fans allowed to be excited about a new player or is that not permitted in your worldTiglon wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 11:18 am ↑ this. One game against weak opposition and we've decided De Bruin is the second coming. Calm down. He looked very good, but let's see a bit more before we start talking about breaking contracts etc. To be honest, I would prefer to leave that kind of behaviour to Sale anyway.
I'm sure our Head of Elite Performance Recruitment is working on a replacement anyway...

Excited or maybe over-excited? However, given our recent woes, over-excitement can be forgivenay2oh wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 11:27 amCalm down ? It’s not a new thing, even when we were winning league titles our fan base has always had the ability to find negativity amongst joy!

So it does seem like Hardwick, Olowofela and Lewis will potentially be off end of season.
I have slight worry about Browning.
Browning especially I could see being lured to American football side of things, he has the perfect build for wide receiver.
Of the top 3 guys I would be most sad to see lewis go (should it happen), I understand that physicality is a big part of the forwards but I could see him do really well at a team like Bristol.

I totally agree re Lewis. He is so quick as shown in todays friendly against Saracens. Bristol would be a good fit. I'm sure there are plenty of other clubs out there who could find a place for someone with his talent. Crying shame if Tigers let him go.RagingBull wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 3:30 pm So it does seem like Hardwick, Olowofela and Lewis will potentially be off end of season.

Why the thought that these young players are leaving? to compete in all competitions, we are going to need all our players, this is going to be a long old season.
"If you want entertainment, go to the theatre," says Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill. "Rugby players play the game to win.15/1/21.

He's virtually the same height and weight as a rather useful blindside flanker we used to have. Makes you wonder if Tom Croft would have 'made it' if he'd been born 13 years later.RagingBull wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 3:30 pm So it does seem like Hardwick, Olowofela and Lewis will potentially be off end of season.

Happy days clearing straw from the pitch before the Baa-Baas games! KBO

I think because they seem so far down the pecking order. Lewis, for example, appears to be behind Liebenberg, Reffell, Taufua, Brink, Wells, Wallace and Chessum on the flanks. That makes him 8th place in a race for 2 places - with none of them likely to have international commitments again this season he is on the fringes of the second team. It's a shame, I would have liked to have seen more of him alongside strong players. Hardwick is apparently 5th choice fly half at best and Olowofela something like 8th or 9th choice wing.tigerburnie wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 8:10 pm Why the thought that these young players are leaving? to compete in all competitions, we are going to need all our players, this is going to be a long old season.
Our strength in depth is better than ever and Borthwick is in a position where it must be difficult to risk short term results in the name of long term player development, by playing youngsters who aren't as good yet as those ahead of them. You need to really stand out, like Steward and Reffell, to make it into the first team and that is a good thing.

Physicality is not all about size, it's attitude as well. O'Mahony is allegedly shorter and lighter than Sam Lewis, and he's about as physical as they come.strawclearer wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 8:47 pmHe's virtually the same height and weight as a rather useful blindside flanker we used to have. I wouldn't believe all the stats on player height and weight. According to our website, Liebenberg is taller and lighter (and therefore slimmer) than Sam Lewis - I'd love to see a photo of them stood next to one another! It also has Gigena and Wiese as lighter than Lewis...

I think without development matches a lot of club's are potentially going to have tricky decisions around this sort or player on the fringe of the senior squad, but not considered by coaches quite there yet.Tiglon wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 8:54 pmI think because they seem so far down the pecking order. May be the likes of him get more of a shot IF ringfencing comes in, if not I see a few clubs having a merry go round of development players looking for more game time
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

I have been thinking along the lines of these young players leaving, but on reflection where are academies in the future going to get their players? There is so much going on at the moment regarding concussion, legislation, parents being scared to allow their kids to take up the game, possible changes to rucks, scrums, and schools possibly dropping the game etc,
When will these changes come into effect and therefore should we be holding on to all these young players, as one day it may be inevitable that they do get to replace the retiring player as there are fewer alternatives? Is the game doomed by H & S?
Its a radical thought, but could it happen?

I think you may be right. The game as we knew it when you and I played is really gone never to return. Someone posted a you tube link to Rory Underwood's greatest hits, nowadays the whistle would hardly stop blowing. Eg the Scottish 9's (Laidlaw?) elbow into Rory's back long after the try scored, the round the throat tackles, the boots on bodies in the rucks (not to mention the knock-ons). There is a greater demand for risk averse play from many areas ( not all sincere I don't think) and even the current level of physicality may soon be gone.LE18 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 9:30 pm I have been thinking along the lines of these young players leaving, but on reflection where are academies in the future going to get their players? I would only assume that boxing would be doomed way, way before rugby. It should be. The whole point is to smash the head around, so if people point fingers at rugby how on earth can we have amateur or professional boxing?LE18 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 9:30 pm I have been thinking along the lines of these young players leaving, but on reflection where are academies in the future going to get their players? There doesn't seem so much of a fuss about boxing at the moment, got to wait for the legal claims to come in, but I agree with you, the aim is to punch the daylights out of your opponent, Crackers, and for both sexes, crazy! Still breakdancing is allowed, although they seem to roll around on their heads, good enough for the Olympics though!MCC1964 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 10:21 pmI would only assume that boxing would be doomed way, way before rugby.
