Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD EPISODE IV: A New Hope
Two hookers are needed in the match squad for each game and it is quite probable that one or two will be unavailable at the same time at some point during the season, plus in normal times there may be an A league game played in the same week so five hookers is the absolute minimum. Clare and Mamukashvili are back up players as it appears is Kerr, Vanes is a great prospect and there must always be room for a developing player therefore more experienced guys that are fourth or fifth choice may have to move on to make room for the youngsters. Selection at first team level must be based on ability, if a player is good enough he is not to old or too young and Tom Y is still even with the new signing one of our two top hookers to suggest he revert to his former position in the backs I assume is tongue in cheek, it took Tom a couple of years to bulk up for the front row it would take longer for a man in his thirties to slim down and of course his position change was suggested because he was unlikely to reach Premiership standard at 12 or 13.

Real shame if true, but after the contract debacle last summer we shouldn't be surprised.

Fair enough - thanks! Looks ominous even from the brief line you can read.jauzy19 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 12:19 pmhttps://www.leprogres.fr/sport/lou-lyon ... aire-rugbyRunTigerRun wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 12:16 pmHave you a link / confirmation for this?

Real shame that we can’t keep him but can understand from his perspective as presumably more money and better climate

Taufua will be a major loss, Weisse looks good, but will he in 12 months? JT's ability to cover 7 whilst being a top class 6 or 8 will need replacement, until we see evidence of some form (& run of games) from Brink we might need to go shopping.

Lots of respect for him - he's a professional sportsman who puts his heart, body and soul into whoever he's playing for. We wouldn't have got him in the first place if someone else had offered £10 a year more - simple as that. Yes - who wouldn't prefer playing in the sunshine and I doubt whether being burgled twice over here will have endeared us to him!
Happy days clearing straw from the pitch before the Baa-Baas games! KBO

Gutted, great player and international quality. But we are well stocked,do we need to replace him?

Agreed. More money, in a warmer climate and out of the constant Leicester lockdown might be preferable for him. He always plays with 100% all in commitment so there was always going to be plenty of offers on the table for him. I was hoping we'd convince him to stay but sadly it doesn't seem so.strawclearer wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 1:37 pmLots of respect for him - he's a professional sportsman who puts his heart, body and soul into whoever he's playing for. On paper we are pretty well stocked but it depends on whether Borthwick fancies the development lads to step up and fill out the said depth.
6. Liebenburg, Martin, Chessum
7. Reffell, Wallace
8. Weise, Brink, Smith
Not bad options but a couple of bad injuries to the front line guys and we might have concerns.

Yes, the only reason he doesn't have a suitcase full of International Caps is he aimed to get in the Worlds best side, he has all the attributes of our other back rowers but in one package.
I understand fully the wish to make the most out of his career, its just a shame WR won't get the chance to see him more in the flesh...Stuart Hogg will be happy....
What you have to think at present if you are a Professional Rugby Player in Aus or NZ would you want to move to Europe at present, even for more money? Narrows the pool of potential replacements. (Unless Nemani can persuade a friend/colleague of his?)

Be nice to get Picamole for a season. Him and Weise at 8,Hanro and Brink at 6 and Wallace and Reffell at 7. Chessum and Martin cover 6 too. Have I missed anyone?Wayne Richardson Fan Club wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 2:09 pmYes, the only reason he doesn't have a suitcase full of International Caps is he aimed to get in the Worlds best side, he has all the attributes of our other back rowers but in one package.

Even if Taufua is off, there's no doubt he will still put 100% in every game he plays until then.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD EPISODE IV: A New Hope
I'm definitely of the opinion that we have enough in the back row even with Taufua off.
Smith, Chessum & Martin all coming through nicely (though Chessum and Martin are primarily 2nd row) Taufua atm is borderline not in our starting XV with Liebenberg, Reffell & Wiese possibly would be a starting back row. Brink hasn't reached peak form from his injury.
As others have said we could probably do with another quality prop more than back row. Maybe get a back row replacement but don't need to spend the whole cap space on his replacement

Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Use the money elsewhere in my opinion if he indeed goes rather than finding a like for like replacement in the backrow.
