Had to come - the size of the padding makes defending the base of the post almost impossible to do legally.
Saw one player penalised for laying in front of base get penalised this season. He couldn't roll away as the post was in the way and if he moved to the side the base was exposed and no way for the other defenders to block the grounding.
Would American Football stye goalposts be a better solution? No posts to pad or get in the way of defenders?

This started as a rumour from World Rugby but now it's groundless!!! For several years the post padding has increased to ridiculous widths dependent on the advertiser. This is a good move but Tigers never really exploited this scoring chance..
However I expect it will be two seasons before Referees Wigglesworth and CMK will realise.
