Best Tigers Team (with a catch)

Post by kpj tiger »

So I've seen this going around on twitter, name the best team from your club but you can only pick one player of each nationality, so far I've got:

1. Marcos Ayerza (ARG)
2. Benjamin Kayser (FRA)
3. Martin Castrogiovani (ITA)
4. Martin Johnson (ENG)
5. Jim Hamilton (SCO)
6.
7. Josh Kronfeld (NZ)
8. Henry Tuilagi (SAM)
9.
10. Joel Stransky (SA)
11. Telusa Veainu (TON)
12. Pat Howard (AUS)
13. Seru Rabeni (FIJ)
14. Blaine Scully (USA)
15. Geordan Murphy (IRE)

Really struggling to think of a Tigers scrum half who wasn't English, French or Irish as well as somebody who could fill in at blindside.

I did think of Kardooni but I wasn't sure if it was cheating being as he played for England A

You could move Scully to 15, put Stanley or Lougheed on the wing, both Canadian, and put Frank Murphy at 9

Mefin Davies at hooker would give you France back, Dupuy at scrum half

See my XV, David Mele has been capped by Spain. Sorts out the SH problem.

Can we find a place at centre for Prince Alexander Obolensky? He was a Russian, of course, but played for England before, I think, he was granted British citizenship.

Could have Waisale Serevi at 9 but that would mean shifting Rabeni out of centre....

Didn't we also have an American 8 for a short while, can't remember his name??
If he went in you could shift Henry Tuilagi out and put Freddie Tuilagi in at 13 with Serevi at 9 and either Stanley or Lougheed on a wing....

Edit: Dan Lyle!

1. Ayerza (Argentina)
2. Kayser (France)
3. Castro (Italy)
4. Johnson (England)
5. Hamilton (Scotland)
6. Mafi (Tonga)
7. Kronfeld (New Zealand)
8. Dan Lyle (USA)
9. Serevi (Fiji)
10. Stransky (South Africa)
11. Holmes (Wales)
12. Howard (Australia)
13. Freddie Tuilagi (Samoa)
14. Winston Stanley (Canada)
15. Murphy (Ireland)

1.Ayerza (Argentina)
2.Kerr (Scotland)
3.Castro (Italy)
4.Van Heerden (South Africa)
5.Cullen (Ireland)
6.Mafi (Tonga)
7.Newby (New Zealand)
8.Corry (England) (c)

9.Mele (France)
10.Williams (Wales)

11.Alesana (Samoa)
12.Howard (Australia)
13.Rabeni (Pacific Islanders)
14.Goneva (Fiji)
15.Scully (USA)

Once Mamukashvili has played for the club this will be an easier exercise not needing to be cheeky with the likes of Seru (Pacific Islanders and Fiji) or Mele (France and Spain).

The other cheeky option I considered was Hamish Watson but he didn't make a Tigers appearance at senior level.

Giorgi Tkhilashvili (Georgia played for the A-team but I decided to stick with first XV appearances.

Ken (KJF) Scotland (who played for Scotland and the Lions) played 40 games at fullback for Tigers in 1961/2.

That’s a bit crafty ABC may as well pick Johnson and Back and say one played for England one played for the British and Irish lions

One thing this has made me realise is we really haven't thrown the net particularly wide in the past with the only unusual area of recruitment being the amount of North American players we've had
