On today’s showing, wonder what the chances are of us signing Batley on a permanent deal?

For all those who moaned like nobodies business when we signed him on loan, he's been absolutely excellent each time he's playedLeicestertinytiger wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 3:15 pm On today’s showing, wonder what the chances are of us signing Batley on a permanent deal?

I think Taufua and Liebenburg are decent signings yet I cannot say the same for Reid, Taute, Viljoen or Coghlan. Our pack is strengthened but our attack remains blunt. Nadolo has to start at centre next season to sharpen our attack as we are still struggling badly at centre to break the gain line this after some 5 seasons in the making
Without hope we are nothing, keep the faith, a Tiger for eternity

Spencer definitely of to Bath. Question marks over Thompson and his fitnessLeicestertinytiger wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 11:17 am Wonder if we’ll have any announcements next week? Also gone very quiet on the futures for the likes of Guy Thompson and Will Spencer.

Green will have made room for Lavanini, Taufua and Liebenberg.
Kitchener, Fitzgerald, Williams, O'Connor and Denton out. Taufua, Lavanini, Liebenberg, Green and Coghlan in.
Just a case of re-distributing cap to strengthen the starting XV. Green is no world beater but I honestly don't think he's offered less than Kitchener did in the same role in his final couple of seasons. He will be offering it at much better value too.
Kitchener alongside Parling, Deacon, Croft, Slater and Thorn was a different player. He was brilliant for Tigers when he wasn't under as much pressure as he was as go to starter and line-out leader. Once the stabilisers of those senior forwards departed he didn't step up to be the England player so many had hoped though.

Green operates very well in a well drilled pack. Normally tops the tackle charts and is very good in the lineout. He’s not there to be a ball carrier and is more of the Kruis mould of lock. Think he’ll do very well under Borthwick.
We’ve obviously been targeting bringing in another international lock to partner Lavanini in either Orie or Alemanno. Would rather we keep Spencer but unfortunately with the cyclic nature of contracts, his is up at the end of this season and Wells and Green aren’t. Be sad to see Spencer go, great bloke who’s been unlucky with injury.
Wells has been looking good at 6 so hope he develops more in that position with Batley maybe tying down for depth in the engine room.

You can understand why talented players will want to move back to their country to help get them into their National team, but it is such a shame that we could not keep a hold of him for at least a couple more years. I feel he could have continued to learn much from working with George Ford.
On a wider point, does it beg the question as to whether the academy should use its resources to develop non EQPs?

It is a very fair point regarding the academy’s resources. A counter argument could be having players of his quality in that environment has helped to improve the players around him. As an example has playing inside Costelow helped to make JVP into the excellent prospect he isMurphysLaw wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 11:52 amYou can understand why talented players will want to move back to their country to help get them into their National team, but it is such a shame that we could not keep a hold of him for at least a couple more years. Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2019/20 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 3
although we have seen this one coming it still kinda hurts to see such a great prospect leave - especially when you consider that his chosen path has resulted in many other fine prospects vanish without trace or get lost in the shuffle.Make no mistake Costelow could be very, very good. The only consolation is that any club only wants players that want to play and be part of that club.Should this not be the case then its best for all that they move on - regrets or not.
Seemingly heading rapidly toward senility .....Not long or far to go now , in fact, getting worse daily.....
