And there lies the problem. There are no facts as it stands at the moment. All speculation and ineuendo. Whitty and Everton both say ‘understand’, the BBC then report that as fact. Nothing has been confirmed. There is absolutely nothing to suggest that he has been sacked or whether he asked to leave for personal reasons (a la Meyer) and the club are protecting him.
Quite right!
Murphy refusing to comment, and nothing from the Club to confirm or deny , so all we are left with is rumour.
Who is supposed to be running this club?
How do you know there won't be a formal announcement tomorrow morning?
Bakewell could have left for personal reasons or because there is another opportunity elsewhere. We may have even received compensation for his release none of which we yet know.
It would be an odd decision to release him if Borthwick or someone else isn't arriving imminently.
one down...
Good riddance - brought nothing so far as I could see. hopefully Blake to follow soon too.
now, come on Tigers. Front up and give us some sort of update as to what's going on. Assume this makes Borthwick more rather than less likely...but I worry about Deacon in charge of our pack for any lengthy period
but overall, a step in the right direction which we should all be grateful for
I have no inside information but it seems likely this latest rumour is true. I spoke to Mark Bakewell on several occasions and found him to be a very nice guy. Prior to the Northampton game I felt the main problem was with our backs not the forwards but we were shocking against Saints. When asked about the Borthwick rumours a few months back Bakes said " If it's true, I am out of a job ". It could be that having learned that the rumour is not without foundation he has decided not to stay until he is replaced but to go now.
Brett Deacon is not without experience, he has been coaching now for several years both with our Academy and Development squads and assisting with the first team, he will have Boris at along side him who can help with more than just the scrum.
Bakes was a Matt O' Connor appointment so it may be inevitable that a change would have to happen.
Despite the 'dead cat bounce' it's been pretty clear for some time that Mark Bakewell was not achieving what had been hoped for.
This is a positive move. Both the playing squad and coaching squad have been and are being improved. It often takes more time than fans would like but - better to be right than quick.
Happy days clearing straw from the pitch before the Baa-Baas games! KBO

Never really impressed me beyond the ‘dead cat bounce’, always strolling around at the warm up with his hands in his pockets elbow deep. Just here for the paycheque!

I think this is key. My guess is Borthwick will be seen in Leicester very soon, even if on an informal basis.
It will be interesting to see which matches he watches this weekend.
Very good point. Honest question what does he do for England between now and say 2 weeks before the 6 nations, other than watch players, and they’ll already have a good idea of who their looking at already.
Maybe he will come in, put what he wants in place, then return after the 6 nations

If the players needed active coaching immediately before a game then there's a serious problem! Not sorry to see a change in the coaching setup, but complaining about the warm up does seem a bit harsh!

Not 'complaining', just an observation! In any case we do have serious problems, so all extra coaching should be encouraged

How is this positive news in anyones eyes beggars belief. Here we are facing a genuine relegation battle where stability at he club apparently matters so much we can't sack Murphy, and now we have an experienced coach leaving under a huge cloud. We then replace him in the interim with another ineffective and sub standard 'solution' to keep the ship afloat before Borthwick arrives post 6N which will be too late to have any significant effect.
The fact that Bakewell has left with immediate effect smells of a rot somewhere in the coaching/players relationship, why else would he leave 'with immediate effect'?
This isn't moaning, this is facing facts which so many forum members ignore all too often.
.. is it possible that Borthwick has been cleared to leave the England set up before the 6N?
Should this be more than a rumour (and tend to believe it is for whatever the reason) would take this opportunity to wish the man all the best and hope he achieves success in the future.Certainly came on board with a reputation but just as for many others in recent times the Club has proved poisonous.
Seems we cant even handle this (most probable) departure with either dignity or professionalism.
Hope some good comes out of it for all concerned.
Seemingly heading rapidly toward senility .....Not long or far to go now , in fact, getting worse daily.....
The BBC report that Mark Bakewell has left with immediate effect. Head coach Geordan Murphy is quoted saying, "We have been linked with numerous coaches across the world and it is something that is probably unfair to go into,"
Only Leicester Tigers in its current form could botch the simplest of pieces of communication. Other clubs seem to be capable of communicating effectively. What is so difficult?
"Can confirm X has left the club, we thank him for his contribution and wish him the very best of luck. In the short term y will be taking over his responsibilities. Our intention is to update supporters on the coaching team in the very near future. The club also want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the speculation in the press concerning the current England forwards coach Steve Borthwick. Whilst we are very conscious that supporters are interested in developments at the club and ............., much as we would like to........."
It might be bland, but comms are about acknowledging that any organisation has a variety of legitimate stakeholders who need to be communicated with in order for the organisation to function effectively. Putting fingers in ears and shouting "blah, blah, blah" is not professional comms.
No doubt communications and PR will be another area of the club for which our illustrious CEO Simon Cohen does not have responsibility.

You’ve asked what could be so difficult but then have tried to answer the question yourself. Tigers will announce what is happening when everything is ready to be announced.

If it's true that Bakewell has gone and if communicating it is so easy, one wonders whether there may be a reason for the present silence. What if we wait and see instead of rushing to rubbish "our illustrious CEO" without any evidence whatsoever and based solely on our own assumptions?
