Please GM fall in your own sword and resign. Takes a big man to admit they aren’t up to it and no one will think any less of you.

Will all ways support, however I’m crying at the moment.
I know it’s only a game, but my heart is breaking at the thought of relegation. Our once proud club... :smt022

We will get relegated unless something drastic happens. No defence, no real attack, dysfunctional line out, no game plan, no resilience, no direction. We're an absolute shambles. Today's game was an agonising watch.

No the steady decline started whilst Cockers was still here. The decline was exacerbated after he left by the truly moronic decision to appoint Matt O'Connor a man who virtually destroyed every structure at the club. The massively optimistic appointment of Murphy helped nothing at all.
The decline started when the oldskool players left/retired (like Toby Flood who played what was in front of him, sod the playbook) and the inadequacy of MOC contributed by neglecting the emerging players (a reputation he enhanced subsequently) and being a :censored: defence/attack coach. Cockers admitted he needed new coaching input, but the Board wouldn't stump up for either new blood or quality players. Then player power blossomed under Mauger - another inadequate coach - and the decline accelerated. This current situation cries out for a powerful Head Coach and then a wholesale removal of the current coaching team (bar Boris).
Cockers was a great coach for Saturday, he was not a great director of rugby because he struggled to see past the game on Saturday. Hence why we constantly needed to purchase players and why we kept bringing in average players on short term contracts. His major failing was that he couldn't develop a pathway from the academy to the first team. Murphy on the other hand did that but can't get the coaching for Saturday bit right.

Cockers was given a selection of options as head coaches. The issue was he wouldn't take a hands off approach so any head coach we hired had to be one happy not being in complete control. Cockers needed to be moved back down to head coach and a DOR with real vision brought in above him.
Record speaks, and yes he is a coach. Twice the guts and nous of anyone now there. Club has lost it, big.

I know everyone is hacked off but why does the conversation constantly return to the man, who the decline started under, good coach or not, and who won’t be returning.

Can we please try and look forward as to how, this group of very good players, is going to be transformed into some sort of team

According to Twitter Mike Ford is to take up the Head Coach role with Fiji.

Not sure who this blokes agent is!! At least we won’t have to see him around Oval Park in any senior capacity.

Individually they are a group of very good players they are not a team, that is down to the coaches

Rumours are he's in a list of possible appointees, there's a few French options as well due to the number of Fijians playing over there. John McKee the incumbent Fiji boss has a contract that runs out at the end of the year. Generally he's improved the consistency of Fiji despite limited resources but the fitness issues around the squad cost them victory over Australia and Wales. The disappointing loss to Uruguay probably the nail in the coach's coffin.

That is one of the reasons we are in this current mess. Another knee jerk reaction will do absolutely nothing. We have experienced coaches in place, it's not like there's a bunch of new coaches running the team.

If Borthwick has agreed to join as head coach then he needs to soon and not in a few months. If not then the board need to start reviewing availability and who is suitable because the ability is there but current the structure isn't. Move Murphy into a pathway job which is where he looks competent, Mike Ford, Bakewell and Blake to all have their appointments reviewed by the new man when we identify him.

We cannot rush the next appointment or be overly sentimental as we have done with all the others it's time for an arm's length review and appointment.
I would generally agree on long term planning etc, but it's not knee jerk if it's after 18 months in charge with the team getting steadily worse, despite good recruitment over the summer. They got Mike Ford in to help, made no difference. Pat Howard was recruited to mentor, made no difference.

The arguments of "give him time" and "the squad isn't good enough" are no longer applicable. These players are good enough, and he's had time.
And when are we going to appoint a defence coach? What? We have? When does he start? What, he already has? Well who knew?

Actually, the failure of the TMO cost victory over Australia!
