I think May and Genge will be the only England players that will feature.

Dodgy track. Look at our injuries from playing on The Welford Road surface.
Artificial pitches are here to stay.
Our backs should relish the Cardiff pitch as it suits fast back play.
Look at the way artificial pitches are made and tested and you will find out how good they are.
The surface burns you get are a real downside but they are laid with great care and the tests they do on such a surface make them as safe as possible.

I hope Lavanini starts again to get him game time in Tigers systems.RagingBull wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 8:51 pm Maybe see a Pack of

If OTY is rested then I'd be delighted to see Reffell named captain.

Again your lack of knowledge over the injuries caused by artificial pitches never ceases to amaze but still you’re entitled to your own opinion.Ian Cant wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 8:52 pm Dodgy track. Look at our injuries from playing on The Welford Road surface.

The answer I suppose is that I’ve never heard of a player being advised not to play on a grass pitch due to previous injuries but there are an increasing number of players being advised not to play on artificial surfaces.
I’m sure they all laid with care as you would expect a product costing hundreds of thousands of pounds, but just as all grass pitches vary in quality so do artificial pitches

Re: European Challenge Cup - Cardiff vs Tigers
There is no evidence across any study of repute that there is an increased risk of injury playing on an artificial pitch compared to a natural pitch.
Perception is very different and there may be reasons why they exist but the science to date is very clear.
You can check with University of Sheffield, Loughborough, independent test labs for sport etc, they will all say the above.

Re: European Challenge Cup - Cardiff vs Tigers
I take your point, but I have seen injuries occur on artificial pitches that would not have occurred or been as severe on a grass surface, and it is documented that players with certain injuries, knee and ankle ate advised not to play on them due to less give in the surface.DeadlyDunc wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 10:10 pm There is no evidence across any study of repute that there is an increased risk of injury playing on an artificial pitch compared to a natural pitch.

My own feeling is that the way forward is the hybrid pitch such as a welford road.
Anyway the topic is Cardiff v Tigers and I look forward to tomorrow’s team selection and a decent result on Saturday

Re: European Challenge Cup - Cardiff vs Tigers
My opinion is yes, some changes but not wholesale. Keep the bulk of the team that started against Pau and integrate/bring in some others, such as Taute and Genge, who need game time, but keep it sufficiently minimal to retain the game plan However, keep in mind resting players after Saints for the Italy games:
1 Genge
2 Kerr
3 Lady Gaga
4 Spencer
5 Green
6 Kala
7 Reffell
8 Boladou
9 Youngs
10 Ford
11 Olowofela
12 Eastmond/Viljoen
13 Taute
14 May/Holmes
15 Worth/Holmes (depends on who plays 14)
Pretty strong bench so
16 OTY
17 Gigena
18 Cole
19 Lavanini
20 Taufua
21White/Simmons
22 Eastmond/Viljoen (depends on who does not start)
23 Worth or Steward

"..........but keep it sufficiently minimal to retain the game plan" Game plan? Is this something new in the arsenal of the Tigers weapons? I'll be there to cheer the boys; on meeting up with some welsh mates from our playing days in the 70's. They had better win as my only retort to the welsh banter will be 'how many times have Wales played a RWC final'Chobbsy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 9:26 amwe have to continue winning it should be the strongest team availablehappywomble wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 11:42 pm My opinion is yes, some changes but not wholesale. Re: European Challenge Cup - Cardiff vs Tigers
Great to see Simmons in the matchday squad, Cardiff team quite strong (but weak in the pack maybe?) so as long as we don’t get embarrassed and get something for our efforts it should be a good day’s work.
