Good to see Gigena awarded with a start; obviously there to help Lanavini/Laninivi/Lavanavini with his English.

Leicester Tigers include five of England's Rugby World Cup squad in the team to face Pau in the opening game of the European season at Welford Road on Saturday.

Manu Tuilagi, George Ford, Ben Youngs, Dan Cole and Ellis Genge are all included in the matchday 23 as Tigers host their French visitors in Pool 5 of the European Challenge Cup.

All five are in line for their first club appearance of the season after collecting runners-up medals in Japan, while South African centre Jaco Taute could make his Tigers debut after being named among the replacements.

Telusa Veainu misses out after suffering a broken nose in the win over Gloucester during the last game at Welford Road, and Jonah Holmes reverts to the wing this week as EW Viljoen comes in at full-back.

Head coach Geordan Murphy also includes Sam Aspland-Robinson on the wing and moves Noel Reid to centre with Ford resuming in the No10 shirt.

Tomás Lavanini starts for the first time since his arrival at the club, joining fit-again Will Spencer in the second row, and Tommy Reffell returns to the back row where Ifereimi Boladau starts at No8.

Murphy said: “It’s been a very physical start to the season and with players coming back in from the World Cup, we have a chance to make some changes this week.

“It’s good to have those senior internationals back in, they are world-class players and we want to get them back involved.”

Tickets for Saturday’s game are available now. Book in person, phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or online.

Spencer 19 stone 7, 6ft 7
Lavanini 20 stone 6. 6ft 7

That’s got to be the heaviest lock pairing we have played?

Strong team. Interesting to see how the Ford Reid axis works and how Viljoen goes at full back. And as Raging Bull intimates that's a heavyweight 2nd row pairing.

As an aside, how unlucky is Telusa? A broken nose now :smt010
Tigers for the premiership and European Cup. Get behind the team and make some noise!!

Why is Genge not starting? Is it purely the language problem?

Hope Viljoen has acquired a better understanding of where the touchline is.

Interested to see how he does go at 15 would be very handy for us if it goes well.

Glad to see Reffell back involved.

Wonder what sort of team we will go v Cardiff away, especially given the pitch type.

Would like to see Steward involved at the least.

We need to get our best players used to work together so that when the prem kicks off again they’re already firing

Glad to see them playing Ford / Reid / Manu as to succeed we need their play to be instinctive

Agreed, we need to put out our best team to firstly get them used to playing together and secondly to hopefully win and get some momentum going.

Massive pack, like the look of our heavy duty lock pairing plus Genge and Leatigaga to come off the bench.

Reckon though our first choice pairing would be Taute at 12 in like a De Allende light option with Manu outside.

It would be logical seeing as just about every minute Lavanini has played has been with Gigena.

That said, Gigena has been doing alright.

Cheers, Brian! The team I posted earlier was I think, a prediction from the Pau forum.
None of last week's starting XV start tomorrow. Four who started are on the bench, Adriaanse, Metz, Puech, Hastoy. However, six players who were on the bench last week are in tomorrow's starting XV, Rey, Delannoy, Pesenti, Erbani, Daubagna and Taylor. Moise was a replacement last week and is tomorrow.
Pau have a strong squad and being 3rd in the Top14 will be stern opposition for Tigers. A lot will depend on Tigers' England players and how quickly they can impose themselves on the game.

Looking forward to being there, and a good teamsheet. If it gels, could be very good indeed.

Fisihoi-Rey-Corato/ Pesenti-Delannoy/ Waqanoborutu-Erbani-Gunther// Daubagna-Taylor/ Votu-Dumoulin-Nicot-Pourrailly/Pinto

Reps : Barka-Moïse-Adriaansse-Metz-Habel kueffner-Le Bail-Hastoy-Nueno

Not many household names in this team. Fly half Tom Taylor apparently had 3 caps for NZ back in 2013.

As an aside, Pau are better known in France as Section Paloise. The word Palois means a native or relating to Pau. A multi-sports club was founded in the Béarn region of SW France in 1902 and the rugby section of the club was called Section Paloise.

If Tigers field a close to full strength side, and as the opposition doesn't appear to be so then Tigers should win (famous last words, so I'll keep my head down if it all goes titz up!!!)
Bleddyn should have fun with some of those names on Radio Leicester tomorrow :smt045
He can't even manage Lavanini. His attempts at Mapapalangi were a joy, I thought we had 4 extra players once!
Did you listen to the Rugby Hour on BBC radio Leicester this week? They were looking back to the night we beat South Africa and played parts of the commentary. Lucas Amorosino featured heavily. I don't think poor old Bled got his name right once. Not even close. And as for his pronunciation of Maori (may-or-ee) and Ayerza (aye-ez-ra)….Best not mention Jaco van der Westhuyzen.

I chatted to him once after a game. Lovely bloke, but I think getting names right is one of the main requirements of being a commentator. Perhaps explains why he's now a summariser. :smt003
