Would Costelow really cost a fortune to tie down?

It all comes down to how much we want him and how important we think he will be to us. The answer might well be, not enough.

if he has offers from Welsh regions he's not going to be cheap, for a 5th choice 10 it would likely be more than he is worth to us at this point

Exactly, and if Ford is expected to stay for 3 years then Costelow won't be particularly important to us any time soon.

The other view from Costelow could be that if he agreed say a 5 year contract with Tigers is that is chance of playing for Wales gone till he’s in his mid 20s

If you sign a contract before being capped then you're exempt from 'Gatland's law'. So signing a new contract wouldn't rule Costelow out of Wales contention.

I'm not a fan of Reid being picked at 10. Costelow should currently be 3rd in the picking order, with Ford away for the 6 Nations he should be in the 23. That's how highly I rate Sam.

Totally agree regarding Reid. He’s a very good 12 but not a 10 unless in a real emergency.

Thanks for the Gatlands Law clarification

Costelow is 19, and only recently. Three years where he's playing off the bench, in the cup and in rotation with Ford and Hardwick would mean at 22 he'd have a good grounding with Ford heading to another world cup at 30 and with every possibility of looking for a pension top up elsewhere after. Having George Ford has a mentor would also be beneficial.

I think we'll see Hardwick slot into 12 in the future as well so that might free up more opportunities at 10.

Ahead of Patchell (RWC semi finalist) and Dan Jones who a lot of people think might still keep Patchell out when he comes back from injury?

So.....

Sign up Jamie George now - for no pay so no implications for our cap - then start paying him from June (start of the Cap Year) with the money from Taf being released and OTY retiring?

I believe that whatever the payments are they are averaged over the course of the cap. Happy to be corrected if wrong. It's to stop the NFL style front/rear loading of contracts.

So we pay him nothing for 4 months which, averaged out over the 2019/20 year is.......nothing! :smt031

The earliest they’ll be letting any 6 nations players go is if they loose in Leinster, as they won’t have them for February and a good chunk of March

No idea of the source but this article on the possible players departing Saracens has us as a possible destination for Billy V....

https://www.rugbypass.com/news/saracens ... ly-leavers

I don't know if that's something I'd be pleased about or not. Very good player but we would lose him for all England games and also for broken arms.

It may all be completely made up bulll%$£* though?
