I expect Smith to fall by the wayside as he gets 'read' more easily, and Grayson needs to mature a bit. Umaga will get a smell of a cap if EJ wants to keep him, methinks he is a sub-Freddy but that's just me.

So has Eddie! Unforgiveable!!
I'm very curious to see who he plays at 8 - Ted Hill? Ludlum? Lawes? Manu?!

I don't think any of the squad have spent much time playing there.
Manu at 8? Good call! Why the hell not!!!

Totally agree about Smith, he is a bit of a splash and dash player and Grayson time will come. Umaga has been playing well for Wasps and his time in New Zealand won’t have done him any harm

Umaga has always had natural rugby ability.
Folk rave about Finn Russell's ability, well this young lad could be better.
Just needs experience.
Grayson is also very good.

England have dropped Jack Nowell from their squad for the Six Nations as one of 10 absentees from last autumn's World Cup.

Nowell, the Lions wing who is highly rated by Eddie Jones, played for Exeter in Saturday's Champions Cup victory over La Rochelle but is excluded from the 34 names picked for the 2020 Championship.

Also missing from the 32 players who helped England reach the World Cup final are Jack Singleton, Mark Wilson, Dan Cole, Billy Vunipola, Henry Slade, Piers Francis, Joe Cokanasiga, Ben Spencer and Ruaridh McConnochie, Jack Nowell.

Many of the Japan 2019 casualties are injured.

However, Jones has opted against calling up specialist number eight cover for Billy Vunipola.

I suspect, get a lot bigger. At least while Jones is Head Coach.

Eddie picks the squad. He is meticulous in terms of watching players, looking at body language, how players react to certain situations etc. I'm pretty sure he won't be thinking "oh no, I haven't picked an 8", he'll have a plan for everything, in detail and they'll be reasons why certain players have been picked and some haven't. I trust him.

He's said Curry, Earl and Ludlum will be options at 8.

No Sam Simmons or Alex Dombrandt. Curious decisions.

Ah I missed Earl. He has been playing well for Saracens in Billy’s absence

I watch Premiership rugby from time to time on the net and I can't understand why both Simmonds brothers haven't been included!
Surely fly half Jo must be further up the pecking order than Umaga (of whom I admit I've seen little of), and the omission of Sam beggars belief as loads of us thought he was a shoo-in at number 8!
Eddie must've been smoking a bit too much of something or other.

If Earl plays at 8 which for me is a sensible selection, is having three jackallers in the backrow overkill, assuming Jones selects Underhill and not a lock at 6.

Is Umaga in to stop him playing for another nation?

for Sam Simmons should be a shoe in and I would also consider Joe without a doubt

Agree totally about both Simmonds brothers. Sam is in a very rich vein of form and would be a much better bet than the 3 names Jones has mentioned.
I too think that Joe is an excellent prospect, top drawer goal kicker, I think he’s missed 2 all season, and anyone that saw his try against La Rochelle would have been impressed
I wonder if Eddie has a problem with Exeter as he seems to have real problems picking their players unless there is no viable alternative. All in my opinion of course
